SUMMARY
The MPX Senior Communications Project Manager supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by formulating and implementing the Department’s communication strategy to educate Californians about MPX prevention and vaccines, including the development, implementation, and coordination of strategies and tactics related to MPX pertaining to the activities of the California Department of Public Health.
The MPX Senior Communications Project Manager serves as the Project Manager and communication’s strategist leading CDPH’s MPX education activities. The contractor works with the highly visible Outreach and Education Branch within the Office of Communications, which includes internal communications, social media, and multimedia communications. The manager oversees and provides knowledge, expertise, direction, and technical assistance in the day-to-day management of MPX programmatic areas and plans, manages, directs, and assigns projects, establishes existing and future priorities, and reviews staff work related to MPX.
This is a temporary, grant-funded, full time, benefitted position. This position is expected to last through December 2023 and may be extended should funding become available.

The salary range for this position is $105,108 to $112,224 a year depending on experience/qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Developing and implementing communications policies and strategies to: inform internal and external audiences of MPX education and vaccine activities and accomplishments.
· Provide communications support and strategic guidance to programmatic communications teams.
· Inform external audiences via website copy, fact sheets, social media platforms and multimedia communications on urgent public health issues and emergencies related to MPX.
· Inform and liaise with Local Health Jurisdiction Public Information Officers and other stakeholders as needed to advance CDPH MPX communications objectives
· Ensure that communications reach all Californians in an equitable way, taking into account both cultural and linguistic competency.
· Participate in conference calls with epidemiology and laboratory partners at CDPH, CDC, California LHDs, healthcare facilities, and other state and local health departments.
· Provides direction on the use of new media and technologies in conducting internal and external education and outreach and collaborates with Office of Communications leadership to prepare accurate and relevant messaging on various emergency public health topics that can quickly launched via digital platforms
· Manages Peregrine agency activities, including assigning work and evaluating work products.
· Provides strategic direction and communications support on urgent public health issues or emergencies that may arise.
· Collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, health education, or public health preferred and four years relevant experience; or
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
