Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Manager, SOX Compliance to join an experienced, fast-paced and collaborative team. The Senior Manager, SOX Compliance will report to the Director of Accounting and will be responsible for overseeing and serving as the primary project management resource for the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program. This position will have significant interaction with the accounting and finance team, IT management and Vera’s external auditors. The Senior Manager, SOX Compliance will lead, coordinate, and deliver on the Company’s SOX compliance program.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the SOX project plan, to ensure efficient and timely execution of all stages of the SOX program.
• Lead the preparation and review of SOX-related documents such as risk assessments, process flow-charts, test of key controls and SOX findings reports.
• Perform annual scoping and materiality risk assessment to identify significant accounts and key controls, including qualitative and quantitative analysis.
• Update and improve internal control documentation.
• Manage external SOX consultants, who perform SOX testing.
• Review, evaluate and prioritize deficiencies. Communicate expectations for remediation of deficiencies and monitor and manage remediation efforts.
• Partner with process owners to design, implement or improve internal controls.
• Participate in special projects and initiatives to ensure potential internal control and process gaps are adequately addressed. Determine the SOX scope impact of changes to financial processes and IT systems.
• Partner with IT department to ensure appropriate IT controls design on current and/or future state processes.
• Evaluate SOC1 reports.
• Act as liaison with external auditors for SOX activities including facilitation of meetings (i.e. walkthroughs), fulfill documentation requests, and program status reporting.

Qualifications:

• 6+ years of recent audit or risk advisory experience from public accounting and/or publicly traded companies.
• A BS or BA in Business, Finance or Accounting is required.
• CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
• Strong, in-depth knowledge of SOX, COSO and US GAAP.
• Proven experience with implementation of all aspects of SOX, including annual scoping; maintenance of narratives/flowcharts, risk-control matrices; testing; evaluation of deficiencies; and remedial testing.
• Excellent project management, communication and influencing skills. Ability to work closely with process owners and facilitate the implementation of remedial action.
• A self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills that works proactively to identify, advocate for, and execute improvements.
• Ability to work independently and in a team to manage multiple competing assignments and achieve deadlines.
• Positive attitude and willingness to embrace change.
• Industry experience in biotechnology preferred.
• Experience with NetSuite preferred.
• Ability to be onsite 1-3 days a week (the Senior Manager, SOX Compliance is a hybrid position)

For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $145,000-$190,000.The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience.

At Vera, base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus, new hire equity, and ongoing performance-based equity.
