WHAT YOU BRING
We expect our Senior Managers to:
- Know great, standards-aligned, teaching and learning when you see it. Whether you are watching how students engage during a lesson or looking at student performance data, you can identify whether students are grappling with the right content and diagnose what needs to happen to improve student learning outcomes in the short and long-term. You understand the implications of the shifts in instruction required by the state standards and English Learner Proficiency Standards or other state standards for students, teachers, school leaders and district staff. You know high quality instructional materials in ELA, SLAR, and/or Math and can support partners in their implementation at the classroom and school level.
- Translate your instructional knowledge and Multilingual Learner content expertise. You have both a deep understanding of instruction and the systems that support—or hinder—access for ML students. You use this knowledge to meet our clients where they are by designing reasonable solutions to their challenges and you can assess and adjust to their needs. You can clearly communicate complex information to various audiences, including teachers, school leaders and district staff, in the way you design and facilitate professional development.
- Build relationships. You have an ability to connect with and build relationships with diverse communities. Professional fluency in English and Spanish (preferred).
- Motivate and influence education leaders. We’re counting on your strong public presentation skills and your ability to build strong individual relationships. You’ll regularly partner with, and be expected to influence, clients, teachers, and school leaders, investing in a vision of rigorous instruction for MLs, especially when they are often the most underrecognized and underserved subgroup of students.
- Connect the dots in ambiguous circumstances. You’ll use your analytical and problem-solving skills to design and facilitate training and meetings, craft strategic academic interventions that improve student performance, and propose solutions to academic challenges every day. Ambiguity doesn’t scare you; just the opposite, you thrive on it. Your creative instincts will help you deal with vague situations and develop new approaches with limited guidance.
- Develop strong project plans from a high-level vision. You have an aptitude for taking a vision and/or goals, building a scope and sequence for the work, and leading team members to accomplish ambitious program goals.
- Sweat the details. You’ll use your strong organizational and project management skills to execute and move our work toward ambitious goals. You will always know when projects are on or off track to reaching their goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep knowledge of instructional techniques that support Multilingual Learners, with at least five years Pre-K-12 teaching experience and at least 3 years of coaching teachers with a proven track record of raising ML student achievement (required).
- Experience working at the district/system/charter network level that served a high percentage of MLs. Leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong familiarity and expertise with educational state standards/expectations, state accountability standards (emphasis on MLs), and a deep conceptual understanding of current instructional shifts (required).
- Deep understanding of English Language Proficiency standards.
- Professional fluency in Spanish (preferred).
This position is based from a home office anywhere in the United States with candidates residing in the Southwest states preferred. The expected travel for this role is about 40% and this can be 8-9 days on site monthly. However, travel requirements can vary significantly across projects and are driven by project needs and client expectations. In addition, given our clients are all over the country, some in cities and some in rural locations, all candidates must have a valid Driver’s License (reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities).
