TITLE: Senior Manager, High School Leadership Programs
REPORTS TO: Director of Learning and Innovation
LOCATION: Hybrid - Partly in person in Washington, DC and remote
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager of High School Leadership Programs develops and manages programs promoting leadership, and college readiness and access for Latino High School students.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) NextGen program is designed to Develop the Next Generation of Latino Leaders. In collaboration with CHCI Leadership Programs, external partners and donors the NextGen program provides Latino High School students with access to experiential learning opportunities, leadership development and programming to foster their growth as agents of change.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Learning and Innovation, with additional guidance from the VP of Programs and Alumni Affairs, the Senior Manager is responsible for designing and coordinating leadership and access programming for Latino High School students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management

  • Develop and manage all aspects of CHCI's NextGen High School Leadership Program, which includes student outreach and selection, logistics, programming, and post-event engagement.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the annual NextGen High School Leadership Program
  • Lead virtual workshops and webinars to provide training and resources to incoming participants and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure that programs' supporters receive periodic and end of year reports.
  • Review resumes and application essays, share new opportunities, and assist students with their college application and selection process.
  • Work with CHCI Alumni Association members and CHCI Alumni staff to incorporate past participants into the CHCI Alumni Association.
  • Provide support to implement and execute NextGen Send-off events in various cities as part of program onboarding.
  • Collaborate across teams to highlight achievements of participants after they complete the CHCI NextGen experience and to ensure that sponsors are receiving proper recognition for their support of CHCI.

Operations and Supervision
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the CHCI NextGen High School Leadership Program
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that program goals and objectives are being met
  • Develop, collect, and manage all reporting aspects of CHCI NextGen program through monthly, quarterly and end of year reports as necessary.
  • Recruit, hire and train NextGen interns to provide programmatic and student advising support.
  • Oversee the CHCI NextGen web page for updated content and accurate information.

Programming and Logistics
  • Deliver robust online/in-person curriculum focused on CHCI's programming pillars, leadership development, experiential learning, academic and access support services.
  • Provide mentorship and academic coaching to support CHCI NextGen participants, Junior Alumni and other program participants
  • Assist CHCI NextGen Alumni with academic and college related support
  • Maintain close communication with programming partners to promote programs and resources, such as NextOpp
  • Coordinate with CHCI teams (i.e., Strategic Events, Communications, Government Relations, Development and Corporate Relations) for the successful planning and implementation of local and region based events, participant selection/onboarding and meeting sponsor requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate High School program related events by working with vendors and offering logistical support.
  • Ensure successful transition to junior alumni status, in coordination with the Alumni Affairs team.

Admissions, Selection, and Onboarding
  • Lead the CHCI NextGen admissions, selection and onboarding process
  • In collaboration with both the Manager of Recruitment and Outreach and Program Partnerships, assist with online/in person recruitment informational sessions and increase CHCI NextGen program awareness through purposeful partnerships
  • Assist with recruitment efforts and strategies and provide recommendations to increase qualified applicants.
  • Provide feedback to ensure the CHCI NextGen online application content is accurate and support in troubleshooting.
  • Manage and maintain accurate CHCI NextGen student applications for the use of the selection process.
  • Report CHCI NextGen application and selection processes/activities for internal purposes
  • Coordinate the selection process by identifying and selecting CHCI NextGen student application readers, provide necessary information and training on selection processes.
  • Provide follow-up as necessary for questions related to the CHCI Next program.
  • Provide recruitment updates.
  • Ensure accurate student records.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • 4 to 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the development, planning, facilitation, and/or coordination of youth leadership programming for High School students.
  • Understanding and knowledge of college access and success for low-income students, especially the unique needs of first-generation students.
  • Strong background in database management.
  • Experience working in collaborative partnerships with Latino and non-Latino education, policy and/or leadership development organizations.
  • Must be creative and flexible to be able to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities.
  • Must have strong leadership skills to develop resources and promote educational opportunities.
  • Strong logistical and organizational skills required.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong team player; works well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.

Preferred:
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Latino community, with a specific focus on first-generation college students and graduates and Generation Z.
  • Experience working with policy organizations and/or Capitol Hill.
  • Experience with youth organizing, civic engagement, and/or policy
  • Spanish-language proficiency (written and spoken).
