Job description

As our Senior Librarian, under the general supervision of the Principal Librarian, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating legal and legislative research services, developing instructional programs, and you'll be a key liaison to external and internal stakeholder groups. This role is your opportunity to shape the future of Witkin's services and to be a part of a dynamic team dedicated to legal research excellence.

The Witkin State Law Library, a section within the State Library, serves as a specialized resource for legal research, reference, and programming. Its collections house a wide range of legal materials, including statutes, case law, regulations, and secondary sources. The library is dedicated to supporting the legal research needs of state employees and the public, with a particular focus on historic California law.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Legal Research/Reference Experience: Extensive experience with legal and legislative research techniques and practices. Strong background in providing in-person and virtual reference service in a legal setting.
- Instructional Skills: Proficiency in developing and implementing in-person and online instructional programs
- Liaison Experience: Demonstrated ability in liaising with departments and outside organizations, identifying collaboration opportunities, and using data for recommendations and decision-making.
- Digitization Project Experience: Involvement in digitization initiatives, including evaluating materials for digitization and creating high-resolution scans.
- Committee Participation: Active participation in library committees, especially those related to strategic planning and digital initiatives.
Personal characteristics: reliable and detail oriented; communicates effectively in writing and in person, and maintains cooperative relationships with others; strong customer service skills.
