The San Leandro Public Library is an energetic and dynamically evolving organization that has four facilities including a Main Library, and three branches varying in size from 10,000 sf to 780 sf. It's an exciting time to shape library services in San Leandro. The Mulford-Marina Branch is undergoing a major expansion and upgrade with architectural plans nearly complete and construction expected to commence in late 2024. Furthermore, the library has talked to over 200 people in a strategic planning focus group process that has provided an incredible level of focus to provide services and programs to the community. The City is looking for a supervisor who is excited by these prospects, energized by interfacing with the public, and capable of stepping up to challenges and finding creative solutions to serve the people of San Leandro.
Definition: Performs professional and specialized library services work including the development and maintenance of library collections and adult, youth and children programs and services; responsible for technical processing functions and grant writing; monitors and coordinates operational activities at branch libraries and performs related work as required.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Exercises general supervision over professional and support staff. Receives limited supervision from the Library Director and/or Assistant Library Director.
Essential Functions:The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.
- Provides reference and information assistance to library patrons; locates books and other materials; instructs and assists patrons in locating information and materials utilizing a variety of media including the Internet;
- Develops, plans, organizes and directs the implementation of specialized programs and services;
- Supervises, schedules, trains, recruits and monitors staff and volunteers in accomplishing a variety of library services and programs; provides program support to staff and activity operations;
- Directs and participates in the cataloging, classification and indexing of books, documents, pamphlets, media, records and other reference materials, in accordance with accepted cataloging and classifications systems;
- Supervises activities of the public service desk; designs and implements workshops for the public; and

Education: Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college or university with a Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Services degree.
Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of adult, youth and children's program development and collection development, community outreach programs and technical processing.
