The Senior Lead, Construction (Quality Control) works closely with the Design, Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing, Operations and Purchasing managers and shall lead site quality and commissioning deliverables to ensure all designs, contracts, and construction activities are executed as required to meet Rivian standards, local regulations, and industry standards. Facilities and equipment that are associated with this role may include, but are not limited to:
- Structural systems: Soil conditioning, foundations, concrete slabs, steel and concrete structures, roofing systems, fire walls.
Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems: All types of pressurized and non-pressurized piping and duct, electrical distribution systems, lighting, controls, fire suppression/ detection/ notification
Equipment: Compressors, dryers, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, blowers, substations, transformers, Wastewater treatment systems, air handling units
The primary function of the Senior Lead, Construction (Quality Control) is to provide quality assurance and commissioning services to the construction team and report to the VP, Facilities. This position is the primary contact for quality and commissioning for the full site and works adjacent to the Project Managers in Construction, Project Design & Architecture, Manufacturing, and Health and Safety.
- Act as a technical authority on material selection, Construction Quality, commissioning, and permitting
- Develop quality assurance plans and oversee Construction Quality of general contractors, and directly to trade subcontractors and/or vendors
- Advise the team on equipment and material vendor selection, as well developing and executing Factory Acceptance Tests and offsite fabrication audits.
- Oversee the design and the work for compliance with all applicable Rivian, local authority, and industry standards
- Project responsibility covers from design, construction, and operations (warranty & maintenance)
- Input to contractor and vendor RFP documents (Quality and commissioning plans), attend job walks and selection/award review meetings
- Establish and/or review contract documents and manage procurement, pre-bid conferences, and evaluations
- Coordinate activities with other Rivian staff, departments, and public agencies
- Review all design deliverables and attend design reviews as a key stakeholder to ensure constructability, commissioning, quality material selection and market availability, and cost and schedule efficiency
- Resolve all quality issues through the implementation and closure of a punchlist
- Ensure a strong multidiscipline focus on completing all requirements in order to receive permits
- Chair quality and commissioning meetings, complete quality reports, and deliver presentations, as required
- Recommend policy and procedure improvements
- Assist in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design, construction work scope, and schedules
- Implement and enforce a quality audit program, oversee contractor corrective actions, and ensure a quality project conforming to plans and specifications
- Manage system commissioning activities and punch list closures through contractor coordination, execution, and troubleshooting
- Support Rivian safety vision and comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required; and 10 years of experience managing quality and commissioning projects of similar size and complexity. Heavy industry experience such as oil and gas, automotive, semiconductor and mining, is preferable.

- Strong technical skills in welding, electrical systems, and equipment functionality
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical materials accurately and effectively
- Effective in making objective decisions
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of manufacturing or process systems, clean rooms, industrial equipment
- Ability to work with and manage construction contractors, vendors, and consultants
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- High level of expertise in all local and industrial standards for quality assurance, material selection, commissioning procedures, and system permitting requirements
- The physical demands associated with the duties and responsibilities described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. This includes ability to spend extended hours walking construction sites, accessing difficult to reach areas via scaffolding, temporary stairs, or manlift; and traveling to different project sites and offices.
- The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. The Project Manager will be based at the job site, visit contractors’ offsite locations and attend meetings at multiple offices. Exposure to outdoors, dust, high noise levels, hot and cold weather is likely. Wearing personal protective equipment is mandatory.
