Form of work This is a full-time benefits eligible position is located at the Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research and is part of the Facilities Management, Research and Administration Facilities Department in Bastrop, Texas.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Sr. Instrumentation Technician position is to provide other Instrumentation Technicians and electricians with technical support and direction and to install, operate, and maintain specialized electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment, knowledge of the Metasys System, responsible for various types of control and monitoring systems (primarily HVAC and facility monitoring/control systems).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reads, draws and interprets electrical, pneumatic, mechanical and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) schematics, one line diagrams and control sequence of operations. Works with Building Automation Technicians to Program microprocessors for initial commissioning, tune of control loops and calibration of analog inputs. Performs functions on live circuits and in operating controls enclosures. May install, troubleshoot and repair 120, 208, 240 and 480 volt controls and equipment per NEC guidelines. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of technicians. Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted instrumentation and electrical work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports. Participates in process improvement initiatives. Participates in the analysis of system and user requirements as it relates to information technology, database modifications, and trending, scheduling, and complex programming changes. Plans and implements future BAS and operations technology infrastructure changes, point definition modifications, and start / stop schedules for various control sequences. May precept staff.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Electrical and instrumentation repairs and installation
Provide guidance in the installation, calibration, and the checking of assigned building systems using manual dexterity, tools, and visual ability. Independently work or assist other technicians with the maintenance and repair of typical building electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, or other control system. Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs of fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Keep up to date on the knowledge of the National Electrical Code
Preventative Maintenance
Perform PMs on electrical, instrumentation, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, and other systems associated with building controls and central plant.
Maintenance, repairs, and programming
Troubleshoot equipment in or out of control systems and replace or repair defective components. Must be skilled in the use of the following tools/calibrating instruments: thermocouple calibrator, resistance temperature detector calibrator, voltage and current generator, multi-meters, and decade resistance box. Assist with the repair/calibration of HVAC systems to include air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves, and associated HVAC equipment.
Metasys / Building Automation
Participates in the analysis of system and user requirements as it relates to information technology, database modifications, and trending, scheduling, and complex programming changes. Plans and implements future BAS and operations technology infrastructure changes, point definition modifications, and start / stop schedules for various control sequences.

High school diploma or equivalent. Eight years of electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include two years of electrical experience. With Journeyman Electrician's license, six years of electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include one year of electrical experience.
