Position Summary:

This newly created position will oversee the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Office of Medical Education. The Senior Director reports to and works directly with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the team of Senior Associate/Associate/Assistant Deans that serve as the leadership of the educational units within the School of Medicine (SOM) including the MD program, the PhD program and post-doctoral training programs, graduate Medical Education training programs, and Health Science programs. The Sr. Director will assume administrative authority over strategic investment in the Education mission areas and projects that span multiple learner groups. This leader will provide innovative direction for the implementation of systems and initiatives that improve customer service, efficiency, and quality of service across education programs. She/he will work in a dyad partnership with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs regarding strategic initiatives, planning processes, operations management, financial oversight, and communications related to the work of the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. This individual will intersect with leaders across units in School of Medicine as well as individuals at UNC Health, other Schools of Health Affairs, and main campus. This individual will promote excellent customer service skills, cooperation, teamwork, and innovative thinking. The Sr. Director will drive the Education Leadership Committee including agenda and project management.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the development or administration of academic standards or curricula, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience with progressively responsible experience in a leadership position.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to those with experience in Medical Education administration.
SKILLS: Demonstrated understanding of a variety of Medical Education administration and compliance requirements and regulations. Excellent planning, management, coordination, and collaboration skills, with the ability to organize a demanding workload comprised of diverse and challenging tasks and responsibilities. Very strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to analyze trends. Ability to communicate ideas and solutions in a clear, concise manner. Identifies problem areas and skill gaps proactively and addresses them appropriately. Excellent project management and change management skills for designing and implementing high priority department initiatives in a complex environment. Experience with budget management, tuition, and scholarship funding. Ability to lead a various group of people.
