Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to manage and oversee projects related to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). CEQA Planners are responsible for guiding clients through the CEQA compliance process, conducting environmental impact assessments, and ensuring that projects meet all applicable environmental regulations and standards.
Hire Type: Full-time, salaried
Schedule: 40 hours, standard business hours, Monday-Friday
Location: California
Responsibilities:
- CEQA Compliance
- Lead and manage CEQA compliance efforts for various development projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects
- Review and interpret CEQA guidelines, regulations, and local ordinances to ensure project compliance
- Collaborate with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies to establish project objectives and scope
- Environmental Impact Assessments
- Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments to identify potential environmental effects of proposed projects
- Evaluate the significance of environmental impacts and develop mitigation measures to reduce adverse effects
- Prepare detailed CEQA documents, including Initial Studies, Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), and Negative Declarations
- Permitting and Regulatory Compliance
- Assist clients in obtaining the necessary permits and approvals from regulatory agencies, including local planning departments, state agencies, and regional water boards
- Monitor and maintain project compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Public Engagement
- Coordinate public outreach efforts, including public hearings and meetings, to gather input and address concerns from stakeholders and the community
- Prepare and present project information in a clear and accessible manner to the public and decision-makers
- Project Management
- Develop project timelines, budgets, and work plans to ensure efficient and successful project completion
- Supervise and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, which may include environmental scientists, engineers, and GIS specialists
- Provide regular updates to clients on project progress, milestones, and any potential issues
- Expertise and Training:
- Stay updated on changes to CEQA regulations and other relevant environmental laws.
- Provide guidance and training to junior staff members and colleagues on CEQA compliance and project management best practices.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in CEQA planning and environmental consulting
- Strong knowledge of CEQA regulations, guidelines, and related environmental laws in California
- Proficiency in project management software and tools

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Professional certifications (e.g., AICP)
