Summary
The Senior Environmental Health, and Safety Specialist will be responsible for providing and administering environmental, health, and Safety programs and related policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities & Requirements
Under the direction of the Regional EHS Manager, the Senior EHS Specialist will be responsible for the following, but are not limited to:
- Inspects the manufacturing facility to identify safety risks.
- Assist in the development, enforcement and implementation of EHS policies and procedures.
- Prepares, schedules and conducts safety trainings, new hire safety orientations.
- Attend and assist plant supervisors with safety meetings.
- Responsible for Training, Motivating and Developing front line supervisors acting as a Safety Facilitator, Coach.
- Reviews and investigates all safety incidents (injuries, near misses, property damage, etc.)
- Works with front line supervisors to develop corrective actions arising from incident investigations.
- Works with Human Resources representative on all matters relating to Worker’s Compensation, Drug and Alcohol testing program, and disciplinary actions relating to safety violations.
- Spends a significant amount of time on the manufacturing floor evaluating hazardous conditions and practices.
- Works closely with engineering department to develop hazard control practices and procedures.
- Prepares inspection reports to document inspection findings and works with facility management to correct deficiencies.
- Oversees chemical management program (SDSs)
- Maintains all safety and training records.
- Works closely with 3rd party safety vendors
- Manages hearing conservation program, air monitoring, respiratory protection program, and any other Industrial Hygiene needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge Health and Safety Policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent knowledge of technology
- Strong scientific and mathematical skills.
- Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel
- Ability to conducts trends analysis and reporting of results against key EHS metrics.
Education and Experience:
- Associates’ Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related topic preferred. (Specific experience may be substituted).
- Track record of leading EHS audit programs, creating increased awareness, heightened standards, and improved performance at individual site locations.
- 8 to 10 years practical experience in a manufacturing/fabrication environment
- Experience with chemical management and writing policies and standard operating procedures
- Experience of different manufacturing and fabrication trades such as welding, machining, assembly, painting, warehousing.
- Experience of manufacturing and fabrication equipment such as overhead cranes, rigging equipment, powered industrial trucks, lathes, CNCs.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E and Industrial Hygiene Best Practices.
- Experience with industrial lasers and robotics a plus.
- Experience using Safety management software preferred.
- Basic business acumen and the ability to partner and communicate effectively with business counterparts.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles (5S)
- OHST, ASP, SMS Safety certifications, preferred.
- Fluent in English is required
- Fluent in Spanish is preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, climbing to safely conduct risk assessments.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
