The School Safety Unit within the Arizona Department of Education assists educators in supporting the physical, emotional, and mental health and safety of students. The Unit includes five primary program areas: The School Safety Program, the Stronger Connections Grant, Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education), School Preparedness, and the Arizona School Nurse Access Program.
Under the direction of the School Safety Grants Director, the Program Project Specialist II will help manage special projects, such as maintaining email distribution lists, monitoring survey responses, assisting with training registration, and coordinating payment of invoices. Additionally, this position will provide administrative support and grant assistance to the School Safety Program team.
Occasional in-state travel is required for this position.
The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs). Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.
Help manage special projects, including maintaining email distribution lists, monitoring survey reponses, assisting with training registration, and coordinating payment of invoices
Perform a variety of administrative tasks such as:
Answering phones;
Coordinating and scheduling meetings;
Reserving conference rooms;
Maintaining and updating files, records, and databases;
Providing webpage support; processing and routing incoming correspondence from shared inboxes and telephone to appropriate personnel; and
Providing customer service regarding routine questions from public education agencies, state agencies, and parents.
Review and approve grant applications to help ensure grant funds are appropriately budgeted and expended in accordance with program requirements and assist in preparing and completing any administrative and monitoring reports
Collaborate with other School Safety Program employees and participate in program team and unit meetings and activities
Knowledge in:
Principles and practices of administrative concepts and applications
Spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Skills in:

Organize/manage multiple priorities and projects
Accurate data entry.
Data collection and information tracking

Preference will be given to those applicants with:
An understanding grants management
A general understanding of budget procedures
