The location for this position can be based in any of the following states: IL, MN, WI, CT, MD, NJ, NY, NV, NC, PA, TX, TN, AZ, WA.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Editorial Director in long-range planning and list management for Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, analyzing marketplace needs and competition and establishing project list and schedule for each season.
- Identify and solicit manuscripts for publication by maintaining agency contacts as well as exploring alternative pipelines for discovering talent.
- Acquire and oversee approximately 10-15 books per year through the entire editorial process, including conducting contract negotiations, developing manuscripts, overseeing book schedules, and collaborating with managing editorial, design, and production teams on formatting, design, and all stages of publication.
- Position new product with respect to content, category, title, subtitle, physical packaging, design packaging, marketing copy, etc., and convey that positioning at internal meetings including acquisitions and seasonal launches.
- Work closely with publicity, marketing, and sales division on matters relating to sales and opportunities.
The ideal candidate will:
- Love children’s books. This is a must.
- Have 10+ years of publishing experience, including a proven track record of publishing bestselling, critically acclaimed picture books.
- Be a self-starter, exhibiting initiative, leadership, and a strong desire to grow in book development and publishing.
- Play well with others. We’re a hard-working team who also happen to be pretty nice, and value colleagues who are respectful, thoughtful, and have a sense of humor.
- Juggle and coordinate. We want a clear communicator who is detail-oriented, organized and can keep short- and long-term projects on schedule while following through on deadlines.
- Be curious. Commitment to exploring new avenues of publishing (from art styles and narrative themes to formats and partnerships) is essential.
