Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer/SVP Patient Care Services, and in collaboration with Division Chairs and Chiefs of Divisions of Neonatology and Obstetrics, the Sr Director Women and Newborn Services is responsible for the inpatient care of the obstetrical and newborn care areas. As a member of the nursing executive management team, establishes a nursing environment as outlined in the ANA Scope and Standard s of Nursing Practice, The MNA Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of ethics, AWHONN and ACOG standards. The Sr Director Women and Newborn Services fosters collaborative interdisciplinary teams from across the continuum of care and establishes operations that are evidence based and contemporary. Responsible for operational development and oversight of the services provided to obstetrical and neonatal patients and families. Responsible for the direction, coordination, and supervision of assigned personnel and activities. As a member of the UMass Memorial management team, works collaboratively to ensure the financial, quality, service, and human resource goals of the medical center are met.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversees and supervises all aspects of Inpatient Women’s and Newborn Services offered at the Medical Center. Responsible for quality service delivery that is cost effective and timely. Responsible for the development of short and long term planning and goal setting. Develops new programs and expands existing services. Establishes systems that ensure continuity of care.
- Identifies community needs/trends, and works with medical center leadership to develop programs and services to meet identified needs. Investigates service expansion, recommends new programs, and oversees implementation as opportunities present themselves. Assures the delivery of quality care and services for our clients.
- Provide executive nursing leadership and support to the departments of Neonatology, and Obstetrics. Establishes goals for the division and oversees development, execution, and performance evaluation.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with community agencies, groups, and professional affiliations. Oversight of the outreach education provided to our affiliates and referring hospitals. Consults with medical, nursing, administrative staff, referring hospitals, and community agencies as appropriate. Serves as a resource to affiliate hospitals for program needed and provides consultative services.
- Identifies objectives and sets performance goals upon which to evaluate performance of the divisional leadership and staff to True North goals.
- Integrates LEAN principles into all processes to enhance staff satisfaction and improve the clinical outcomes for patients in a fiscally prudent manner.
- Promotes integration of clinical guidelines, performance improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction efforts into all programs.
- May require presence on off-shifts and weekends.

Required:
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related discipline.
- Licensed to practice Nursing in the State of Massachusetts
Experience/Skill:
Required:
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a healthcare environment and progressive management experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of Nursing Leadership experience within a hospital setting.
- Broad and thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
- Strong analytical skills required to perform various data analysis techniques, review statistical and budgetary information and synthesize information appropriately. Knowledge of healthcare accounting techniques, cost/benefit comparisons, analysis of budget variances and staffing resources.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective participative leadership and to interact with patients, families, physicians, and other visitors and staff.
- Working knowledge of computers, including spreadsheet and word processing software
