Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Senior Director, R&D Business OperationsProject Leader located in one of our R&D hubs in either New Jersey; Pennsylvania; Cambridge, MA; Beerse, Belgium.

The Senior Director, Business Operation Project Leader in Pharmaceutical R&D is responsible for leading and overseeing multiple optimization projects within global R&D and potentially with other departments in J&J. This role will help to transform the way R&D operates. The role requires strong project management skills, as well as a strategic mindset to optimize Business Operations and drive down development costs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of pharmaceutical R&D processes, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and a track record of successfully managing cross functional initiatives with a focus on cost saving & efficiency. Continuous improvement and stakeholder management are also key aspects of this role. The Business Operation Project Leader will play a vital role in driving operational efficiency, ensuring project successful implementation, and contributing to the overall advancement of pharmaceutical research and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: You will lead and oversee various projects within R&D, ensuring that they are executed successfully and within the given timelines. This includes coordinating with cross-functional teams, tracking progress, and managing any potential risks or issues that may arise.
  • Operations Strategy: You will play a key role in developing and implementing strategic plans to optimize the Business Operations. This includes identifying areas for improvement, streamlining processes, and ensuring that operational efficiency is maximized
  • Budgeting, Resource and Timeline: You will be responsible for managing budgets and allocating resources effectively to support the projects and operations within the Pharmaceutical R&D department. This includes making budget recommendations, monitoring expenses, and optimizing resource allocation to achieve project goals
  • Stakeholder Management : You will interact with various stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure alignment and collaboration. This includes building relationships with key stakeholders, managing their expectations, and effectively communicating project updates and progress.
  • Continuous Improvement: You will constantly seek opportunities for process improvement and innovation within the R&D operations. This involves identifying bottlenecks, implementing best practices, and driving a culture of continuous improvement to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Communication : Encourage open communication and collaboration among team members. Create an environment where everyone feels safe to share ideas, ask questions, and provide feedback, enabling a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Change Management: work closely with Sparks (change management team) to ensure smooth business collaboration and implementation
  • Ensure Implementation : You will be responsible to ensure any decision will be implement at the relevant business with detailed execution plan that is being monitored by set of KPI
  • People Leadership : Ability to inspire, guide, and positively influence individuals and teams towards achieving common goals. It involves effectively managing and developing people to reach their full potential, fostering a positive work culture, and creating an environment that encourages collaboration, growth, and engagement.
  • Other:
    • Support seamless integration of new acquisitions.
    • Interface with global functions like IT, Finance and Procurement
    • Support R&D Learning and Development strategy.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required with the preferred focus of study in science or engineering. Master’s or PhD preferred
  • Other: Preferred PMP

Experience and Skills:

  • 15+ years project management/leadership experience in the Pharmaceutical environment, preferably in R&D.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently.
  • Well-developed influencing skills with an interest and experience in building relationships across functional areas.
  • Able to negotiate through complex and difficult decision-making processes.
  • Goal oriented and proven strategic thinker.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and ability to cope well within a tight timeline.
  • People management in a matrix organization.

The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $163,000 to $283,000.
