Position Summary...
What you'll do...
As a Sr. Director, you will be responsible for supporting the non-US markets on their Food Safety journey, acting as a key partner to many, understanding and representing their unique views and challenges. Key stakeholders and business partners for this role include In Market Food Safety teams, international leadership, CECOs and CI, Global Food Safety team: Food Safety Science team, Food Safety Programs, Food Safety Processes, Supplier Food Safety, and US Operations and Supply Chain Food Safety
The ideal candidate for the role will be a strategic, influential, and progressive Food Safety science leader with the ability to translate both Food Safety and business challenges into actionable solutions in a highly complex, rapidly evolving environment. You are someone who builds trust and credibility and inspires associates across the business. You are action-oriented, resourceful, and approachable while also having the ability to influence and lead change, based on your deep scientific knowledge and network.
What you'll do:
Works with both the VP Global Food Safety and the Market SMEs, directing Food Safety strategy, identifying risks and opportunities, to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of achieving Food Safety goals by making use of:
  • scientific basis
  • global industry and internal market best practices
  • the most current technology,
  • systems, processes, and people
  • statistically valid means of determining greatest risks and opportunities.
  • Support operations Food Safety teams in application of Food Safety science for the identification of hazards and necessary controls, validation of processes, implementation of Standards and, verification of effectiveness of controls implementation
  • Support the sourcing and global supplier teams in delivering Walmart supplier Food Safety strategy and best practices in the efforts to identify opportunities and improve Food Safety for Walmart customers
  • Ensuring compliance to Walmart's Food Safety standards, including product testing by independent third-party laboratories to verify compliance with appropriate regulations at the national and local levels of the retail market, and Walmart specifications where products span markets
  • Incident management lead when events cross markets, and supporting individual markets for problem solving based on Food Safety expertise e.g., manufacturing plant or store persistent or transient contamination
  • Leads or Co-leads selected Platforms and Centers of Excellence e.g., Stores, DCs, and Food Safety Culture
  • Supports markets by providing input in developing and implementing strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent across the globe
  • Supporting markets in building a consistent approach where it matters, and ensuring that variations work within the FSMS framework.
  • Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and Ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key SMA outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of applicable plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.
  • Global travel is an expectation.

What you'll bring:
  • Degree in appropriate disciplines, such as Microbiology (preferred), Food Science/Technology or Chemical Engineering. Higher level degree preferred.
  • Proven experience of practical application of Food Safety programs plus leadership roles, 10+ years, with experience working globally preferred
  • Additional experience across non-Food Safety subject matter areas a bonus
  • Experience of working with globally dispersed team members
  • Experience of working with and/or understanding diverse cultures, whether that be from actual experience in other countries or working in global team
  • The ability to influence across a complex organization and team structure to implement standards and control programs
  • Action oriented and holds people accountable
  • A second language is highly desirable.
