Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist III. The Research Scientist III will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. The Research Scientist III will work on biosurveillance component of OD2A-S (overdose to action in states), a CDC funded grant in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences. This project requires analysis of drugs including opioid panels, stimulants, adulterants, and polysubstances in urine and serum from residual human samples obtained from suspected overdose cases presenting at the hospital emergency department using high resolution Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods.
The incumbent will participate and oversee the biosurveillance component of the grant, including development of analytical methods and analysis of human biospecimens. The incumbent will participate in program related meetings with CDC and Office of Drug User Health (ODUH) and will provide update and status of the project on a periodical basis. The incumbent will coordinate with hospital emergency department of the collaborating partner in coordinating human specimen collection, receipt at the lab, and handling strategies. The incumbent will contribute toward drafting documents for required progress reports, status updates, as requested by the funding agency.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a related field and three years of research experience; OR a doctorate in a related field and one year of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
At least six years of research experience in biomonitoring methods for trace organic chemicals, including persistent organic pollutants, using LC/MS/MS and high resolution GC-MS instrumentation, with at least three years of that experience in a NY State CLEP-permitted laboratory. Experience with trace level analysis of human specimens for environmental chemicals. Demonstrated project management skills and supervisory experience. Demonstrated publication record in organic analytical chemistry for human biomonitoring.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
Travel, up to 25% of the time will be required.
