The company has an R&D team with an established track record in the pharmaceutical development of small molecule protease inhibitors, world-leading expertise in the role of plasma kallikrein in disease, and a management team with the capability to bring small molecules through the clinic to commercialization.
KalVista now seeks a Senior Director, Payer Account Management, Market Access, which is critical to the organization's mission as it prepares to commercialize sebetralstat, a novel, oral plasma kallikrein inhibitor. KalVista recently reported positive results from the KONFIDENT phase 3 study which demonstrated that sebetralstat met all efficacy endpoints for the treatment of HAE attacks and the safety profile was comparable to placebo. We plan to submit an NDA in the first half of 2024 with launch in 2025.
As the successful candidate for this position, you will fill a critical operating role within KalVista and report to the Vice President of Market Access. You will be a key member of the Market Access Leadership Team helping to develop the overall market access strategy for sebetralstat. Responsibilities will include recruiting and leading the Payer Account Management Team and establishing payer coverage while removing access barriers for individuals in need of sebetralstat. Key customers will include national commercial and government payers, key regional payers, Pharmacy Benefit Managers, etc. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the US healthcare system, including payer and PBM dynamics along with current relationships within these organizations. This role will have specific accountability for strategy development and execution within the Payer landscape while maintaining business relationships within strategic accounts. Senior Director, Payer Account Management will be a collaborative partner with cross functional teams to deliver both short- and long-term success. The candidate must be able to operate in a fast-paced, growing organization, with a goal of exceeding expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute the Payer strategy aligning to KalVista’s launch goals for patient access
- Lead the development and implementation of the US sebetralstat Payer Account Management and Engagement program. Establishing priorities, call points, and the tactical implementation of the value communication plan within US Payers, leading to access for HAE patients in need.
- Design, build, recruit, train and lead the Market Access Account Team
- Engage and expand upon existing relationships at strategic Payer Accounts, including key decision makers and within formulary development teams to ensure appropriate value communication of sebetralstat
- Help refine and deliver the value proposition to educate payers, formulary committees and similar entities on product and economic benefit
- Champion patient’s needs to ensure KalVista’s efforts are ideal for supporting individuals and HCPs with regards to on-demand HAE therapy
- Develop, maintain and present detailed account plans for targeted accounts from pre-launch to post -launch
- Represent KalVista’s perspective within the Payer Community and the Payer’s perspective back to KalVista
- Drive collaboration among field sales and patient access teams to ensure awareness of payer dynamics along with gaining insights to access needs communicated from patients and HCPs
- Cultivate communication and partnerships across Commercial, Legal, Compliance, Quality, HEOR, Medical Affairs and Finance to ensure alignment on and optimal compliant execution of Payer strategy and engagements
- Travel as required for live or in-person customer meetings
REQUIREMENTS
- 15+ years in the biopharmaceutical industry; emphasis in US Market Access
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Rare disease product launch experience in the US required
- Experience delivering product access in competitive markets
- Demonstrated leadership of Payer Account Teams within launch environments
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence across multiple organizations within and outside of KalVista
- Proven ability to gain access to Payer decision makers and influencers
- Innovative mindset with the ability to take a creative approach to best meet the needs of both customers and KalVista
- Ability to develop strategic and tactical plans related to the needs of KalVista and the HAE community
- Strong presentation skills and ability to present to diverse stakeholders
- Strong financial, analytical and Account Management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage and measure results and KPIs
- Previous experience working in a pre-commercial biotech company is preferred
