VOA is seeking a Senior Director - Major Gifts, a role where the selected candidate will be responsible for securing Major Gifts from individuals, corporations, corporate foundations and private foundations to support national VOA funding priorities. In addition, the person in this role will play a critical part in implementation of a four-year, $10 million fundraising campaign and will also assist with other VOA fundraising priorities, as directed. The Senior Director - Major Gifts will work closely with the Senior Vice President - Development, Chief Executive Officer, Vice President - Corporate Partnerships, Executive Vice President - External Affairs and VOA’s Board of Directors to identify, engage and secure national corporate and foundation relationships.
This position is full-time and has the capacity for On-Site, Hybrid and Remote Work Schedules
Primary Responsibilities:
The selected candidate in this role will...
- Work closely with the Senior Vice President - Development, Vice President - Corporate Partnerships and other key staff in the research, solicitation and cultivation of major individual, corporate and foundation donors – targeting $100k plus gift opportunities
- Manage and assist with development and implementation of a strategic national fundraising plan aligned with VOA priorities
- Assist with raising $10 million for the Vision for the Future campaign (new senior affordable housing complex with services and national office) – working with Senior Vice President - Development, Executive Vice President - External Affairs, Chief Executive Officer, other key staff and Board and campaign committees
- Leverage the Chief Executive Officer, Board, Campaign Committee(s) and Affiliate staff leadership to cultivate and solicit prospective donors, as well as former Board and staff members
- Initiate opportunities for the Chief Executive Officer, Senior Staff, Affiliate Chief Executive Officers and members of the National Volunteers of America Board of Directors to interact with donors and understand their interests and goals
- Develop campaign funding proposals, working closely with program and other key staff, for fully cultivated, “ready to ask” donor prospects
- Create donor products as a cultivation tool with donors
- Manage other Campaigns as assigned
- Use “moves management” process and CRM technology to operationalize donor engagement
- Provide management with planning and coordination of campaign opportunities and coordinate/conduct all necessary follow-up activities
- Provide end to end capability in managing donors and their consistent stewardship, including timelines and projected revenue
- Develop and implement stewardship initiatives for major donors by facilitating meetings between partners and senior staff, affiliate Chief Executive Officers and when applicable, national board members, to ensure continuing partner cultivation and recognition
- Monitor and oversee donor partnership agreements
- Assist with annual corporate and foundation Partners Summit
- Assist with other VOA fundraising priorities, as directed
- Represent VOA at meetings, conferences and functions
- Develop and maintain an active list of contacts/prospects in order to interact with external sources for the advancement of the organization
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively delegate, manage and motivate other employees and outside contacts
- Diplomatic with sound judgement
- Excellent corporate management skills, including negotiating skills and ability to influence as needed
- Good interpersonal skills to work with others. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Sound and accurate judgment with an ability to support and explain reasoning for decisions. Includes appropriate people in decision-making process and ensures that timely decisions are made
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and CRM technology
- Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to travel is required

Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is desired
- A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of demonstrated successful foundation, corporate and fundraising experience – campaign experience highly desired
- A proven track record of successful campaign fundraising – securing Major Gifts fundraising (e.g., $1 million plus gifts) from foundations, corporations and high net worth individuals
- Experience in human services fundraising preferred
