Job description

Title: Director of OperationsJob Description
Department: Value-Based Care Transformation

Astrana Health (NASDAQ: ASTH) is a physician-centric, technology-powered healthcare management company. We are building and operating a novel, integrated, value-based healthcare delivery platform to empower our physicians to provide the highest quality of end-to-end care for their patients in a cost-effective manner. Our mission is to combine our clinical experience, best-in-class delivery network, and technological expertise in order to improve patient outcomes, increase access to healthcare, and make the US healthcare system more efficient.

Our platform currently empowers over 12,000 physicians to provide care for 1.3+ million patients nationwide. Our rapid growth and unique position at the intersection of all major healthcare stakeholders (payer, provider, and patient) gives us an unparalleled opportunity to combine clinical and technological expertise in order to disrupt value-based care. With over a million managed lives across the country and a rapidly scaling team that has grown from 600 to 1000+ employees over the last year, our operations planning and execution needs to consistently be at the highest standard in order to effectively provide our physicians and patients with the resources and support they need to succeed. This role will specialize in operations for our Accountable Care Organization (ACO) line of business.

We are looking for a full-time Senior Director of Operations to join our fast-growing team (hybrid based in New York). This role will report to Anthony Hou, VP, Value-Based Care Programs.

You are:

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and biased towards action.
You can identify the 20% of the work that leads to 80% of the result and constantly execute at a high level. You enjoy thinking about complex and ambiguous problems and can consistently deliver compounding value

  • Relentlessly resourceful.
You enjoy taking ownership and can motivate others to get things done. You are resilient, detail-oriented, and truly believe that no task is beneath you

  • Growth-oriented.
You can evaluate all perspectives, even if uncomfortable, and have the courage to adjust your views if necessary. You have the expertise and communication skills to balance a growth mindset with a bias toward action

  • Mission-driven.
You are excited by the prospect of diving into complex problems that will drastically improve patient outcomes while lowering the cost of a tremendously inefficient US healthcare system, where waste is over 40% and per-capita healthcare dollars spent are double that of other developed nations

What you’ll do:

  • Build out a robust, well documented system for handling all standard ACO operations, including CMS mandated reporting, patient and provider communications, payment of claims, maintenance of compliance / responding to audits, contracting with providers, training staff, and other operational needs as required; ensure the smooth and timely execution of these operations
  • Independently own multiple high-value projects and workstreams simultaneously, managing external and internal relationships, leading meetings, creating project plans, connecting appropriate stakeholders, and delivering on aligned goals
  • Manage vendor relationships and key business partnerships up to and including executive-level correspondence as a representative of Astrana Health
  • Determine how best to use data and analytics to inform effective strategic decision making around ACO operations
  • Design and improve workflows, playbooks, and documentation as we continuously move towards best practices
  • Disseminate information and educate key stakeholders on operational processes as needed
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reporting / memos for executives and external stakeholders, reviewing decision rationales, process design, and key updates, summarizing relevant analytics and metrics, and outlining next steps
  • After an initial ramp up period and familiarization with currently available resources, evaluate if additional capacity is required; if so, source, hire, and lead a team of ACO Operations individual contributors and managers to facilitate high efficiency execution of Operations and projects
  • Collaborate with key ACO leaders to align on and collect KPIs; determine insights and performance-improving action items based on analysis and tracking of indicator reporting
  • Other priorities and duties as assigned

The opportunity:

  • Work on the Strategic Initiatives team which tackles mission-critical projects and reports directly to the office of the CEO
  • Work on Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and join us in creating the future of healthcare with our fastest growing line of business
  • Startup-like mentality and career trajectory
  • Join a group of individuals who strive for consistent excellence

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree, Graduate degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in healthcare operations, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Prior experience with ACO operations and a strong understanding of the ACO REACH & MSSP models is strongly preferred
  • Strong technical and quantitative background and demonstrated experience collecting and deriving insights from data. Programming fluency a plus
  • Best-in-class communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to articulate key takeaways and synthesize action items clearly to management and key external stakeholders
  • Exceptional project management skills, independent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Scrappy, eager, positive team player with no ego
  • Strong comfort with working in a fast-paced environment
  • An authentic passion for improving the lives of underserved patients and advancing value-based care
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
