Senior Director - Global Environmental Compliance

We make and supply medicines and vaccines all around the globe and our teams own every production stage, from creating quality products at our manufacturing sites to designing effective supply forecasting and regulatory inspections; all powered by digital, data and analytics. Job purpose:

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and set direction of global Environmental Compliance programs for all PSM, B&D, Vaccines and Commercial sites. This role is responsible for the delivery of the corporate legacy remediation program to ensure that GSK lives up to its obligations by providing effective management monitoring and driving innovation to deliver results / timely resolution while maintaining compliance with applicable environmental remediation laws. The role serves as the AMR/PIE program administrator supporting and coordinating activities to deliver on the company’s commitment to ensure responsible management of APIs throughout the supply chain. This role directs the newly launched EHS regulatory intelligence program that focuses on determining the impacts of regulations on global delivery of medicines. This role will act as the singular point of contact for all Global Environmental concerns and will interact with key leaders from GSC, Research & Development and Global Functions, external stakeholders and industry partners

Key responsibilities:

  • Integrates Environmental Compliance into the corporate EHS strategy and leads compliance efforts to positively impact business performance, maintaining our EHS license to operate; in compliance with GSK EHS standards and local legislation
  • Promote and drive visible leadership of Environmental Compliance through EHS Councils and Leadership Teams
  • Enhance GSK’s ability to manage product supply impacts (Product Stewardship) from emerging EHS compliance risks and ensure senior leaders are aware and systems are in place to mitigate risk
  • Direct and support regulatory intelligence strategy, advocacy, and policy with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies and provide senior leaders with plans for mitigating potential compliance risks
  • Collaborate with other functions (i.e., GSC, Vaccines, Pharma R&D and Commercial) to integrate Environmental Compliance into the business strategy, risk mapping process, and business continuity plans
  • Provide management of global remediation projects, including determining best course of action for contaminated properties, procurement of waste management vendors, budget planning, legal provisions, GSK external reputation and overall risk to GSK
  • Direct and provide broad scope EHS technical support to the EHS technical shared service

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in environmental Science, Science, Engineering or EHS
  • 15 years – pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical broad discipline in EHS experience
  • 10 years’ experience in EHS leadership
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing multiple complex environmental remediation projects
  • Experience serving on the board of external EHS organization(s) that engage in discussing / managing policy issues relevant to the industry
  • Ability to influence behaviors and provide clear technical advice and direction at all levels
  • Proven proficiency budget / planning – experience working with finance and procurement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MSc., PhD in Science, EHS or Engineering
  • Technical understanding of Environmental Compliance, especially with respect to remediation practices and regulatory intelligence gathering is required to ensure risk to GSK supply chain are mitigated effectively
