Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

NORC at the University of Chicago seeks a talented and experienced Digital Communications professional to join its Strategic Communications team. This is an exciting role for a team player whose skills range from web production to social media and project management.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for digital storytelling, smart branding, and elegant design, with strong writing and editing skills and a keen eye for detail. They will have a solid grasp of the evolving social media landscape and excel in managing multiple projects simultaneously. They will also share a belief in the importance of trustworthy research and data to inform decisions that affect the health and prosperity of society.

DEPARTMENT: Strategic Communications and External Affairs

Strategic Communications and External Affairs supports the entire NORC organization with expertise in corporate communications and creative services, external affairs, internal communications, and select project-level communications.

Our digital work primarily supports the promotion of NORC’s research and people to the public: we work with members of the media to publicize our research projects and our expertise; we support external events where NORC experts present or speak; we maintain the external NORC website, www.norc.org; we support client projects that need Digital Communications expertise, and we manage NORC’s social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Publish engaging content on NORC's website, ensuring it aligns with NORC’s brand standards for clean design and narrative clarity.

  • Oversee content development for NORC's social media accounts, maintaining a consistent brand voice and engaging with audiences effectively.

  • Manage Digital Communications projects, keeping timelines and budgets on track and updating stakeholders.

  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.

  • Create pixel-perfect, responsive web layouts based on mockups from our design team.

  • Track and analyze both web and social media performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of digital communication strategies.

  • Collaborate closely with Strategic Communications colleagues, NORC researchers, and other staff and outside vendors to develop and execute high-quality, integrated communications and marketing campaigns in a timely fashion.

  • Stay informed about the latest digital communication trends and technologies, and explore opportunities for innovation.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 8 years of experience in Digital Communications, with a proven track record of success.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for catching typos and a knack for streamlining text.

  • Sharp sense for design accuracy and a fastidious patience to get layouts exactly right.

  • Deep understanding of social media algorithms and their impact on content performance, with an instinct for what “pops” in people’s feeds.

  • Comfort with analyzing and reporting analytics for web, email, and social media, and an interest in ensuring data accuracy and relevance to business goals.

  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with a variety of website content-management systems (knowledge of Adobe Experience Manager a strong plus but not required).

  • Facility with graphics editing software, such as Photoshop and Canva.

  • A knack for using project management tools such as Wrike or Asana.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work under deadline.

  • Strong references from prior supervisors.
