JOB SUMMARY

Marriott has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Database Systems Engineer—Corporate Systems. This role is part of the team focused on building out our next generation cloud-based data, analytics, and machine learning platform. Appropriate candidates have a passion for data and emerging technologies with a vision for building next generation capabilities and a strong drive for success.
In this role you will function as a technical expert and lead engineer for the Data Platform for HR and Payroll systems. You will perform research, analysis, design, and development on a wide range of next generation data capabilities and products. You will set technical standards and develop reusable frameworks to ensure consistent and efficient creation of data capabilities and products.
You will assume technical ownership of Service Provider deliverables and lead their technical resources to ensure deliverables are of high quality, follow our technical standards & best practices and perform at scale.
In addition, you will research emerging technologies that will provide future capabilities as well as seek solutions for complex technical issues. You will make decisions on complex, non-routine requests to support analytics based decisioning by Marriott business teams.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Research, or Math or other quantitative discipline AND 8+ years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance OR Advanced degree in operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, economics, physics, business analytics, engineering.
  • At least 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator supporting Oracle on premise or cloud applications.
  • Deep knowledge of and ability to develop, run, review and tune SQL scripts to retrieve and analyze data.
  • Deep knowledge and proven ability to create materialized views and manage SQL snapshots, data partitioning and tablespace management.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in Oracle Databases (OBIEE, ADW, ATP) and follow through to a resolution.
  • Ability to review and tune databases using AWR and ADDM reports.
  • Ability to review and manage Cost and Usage analysis of Oracle Cloud Databases.
  • Ability to learn modern technologies and adopt new technologies to streamline and simplify ETL processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree
  • Understanding and experience of Oracle HCM Cloud Data Model.
  • Expertise in Oracle HCM Cloud analytics and Reports. Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, define, and assess Reports in Oracle HCM Cloud using OTBI reporting, HCM Extracts and BIP reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of related Oracle applications like Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure PaaS
  • Strong understanding of Oracle HCM Cloud Global HR product capabilities, Business Objects, Business Object Relationships, seeded processes and system dependencies.
  • Experience with Airflow, Python
  • Experience with Data Governance Tools
  • Experience with Hashicorp Tokenization Products
  • Experience in agile software methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future data platform opportunities.
  • Technology leadership experience in a sourced environment


CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Technical Leadership
  • Trains and/or mentors other team members, and peers as appropriate
  • Provides financial input on department or project budgets, capital expenditures or other cost/resource estimates as requested.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the service delivery processes.
Delivering Technology
  • Performs more complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processes and projects.
  • Supports existing applications and large projects in a minimum of one environment.
  • Manages Oracle HR Analytics database storage structure, indexes, and views.
  • Manages the database users and security.
  • Sets the policy for backups, recovery, and disaster recovery.
  • Enable Proactive performance monitoring of databases reports and jobs including performance of ETL jobs.
  • Review and enhance reports, ETLs, extract queries for optimized performance.
  • OCI Administration, System administration and Exadata console management for capacity scaling.
  • Architect reporting and system design including database architecture and modeling for optimized reporting experience.
  • Prepare and provide guidelines for effective data source management and extracts across environments.
  • Data warehouse management including architecture, security, microservices, materialized views and partitioning as needed.
  • Plan, architect and design efficient automation and integrations across HCM, PaaS and OIC.
  • Ensures all projects follow the defined development and business case processes.
  • Ensures proper coordination with appropriate IT and vendor relations teams.
  • Provides consultation for routine and complex systems development.
  • Ensures early warning to the business stakeholder executives regarding degraded or missed service levels.
IT Governance
  • Follows all defined IR standards and processes (i.e., IT Governance, SM&G, Architecture, etc.), and provides input for improvements to the appropriate process owners as needed.
  • Maintains a proper balance between business and operational risk.
  • Follows the defined project management standards and processes.

Service Provider, COTS, and Custom Application Management

  • Lead prioritization meetings with stakeholders and drive resolution of changes through the process for portfolio of supported applications
  • Coordinate and track the delivery of highly visible operational activities/problems.
  • Groom backlog of features and changes with stakeholders
  • Validates that Service Providers and internal teams develop and manage respective aspects of a project plan, including schedules, deliverables, and appropriate metrics.
  • Makes short term plans for the team to effectively utilize resources.
  • Monitors Service Provider and internal team’s outcomes.
  • Reviews estimates of work effort for client project provided by Service Providers and internal teams for accuracy.
  • Facilitates timely resolution of service delivery problems and minimizes the impact to clients.
  • Functions as an applications expert for both senior leadership and project teams in effective utilization of existing technology in business technical applications, either enterprise-wise or business-wide.
  • Leads workgroup/project team or functions as a technical specialist.
  • Supports and develops systems in a minimum of one environment.
  • Develops and manages respective aspects of a project plan with minimal assistance, including schedules, deliverables, and appropriate metrics.
  • Plans and coordinates complex integration(s) and implementation overseeing quality control of systems functional design, usability, functionality, and implementation.
  • Coordinates with quality assurance, infrastructure services, vendor, and internal application delivery teams.
