Summary
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the City). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.
The External Affairs team is seeking a Senior Coordinator to support efforts to enhance BNY's community presence and reputation as a resource to the surrounding community. They will represent BNY at public events and focus on internal communications, marketing, and government affairs efforts. This role is crucial in creating cohesiveness between departments to advance shared goals.
Areas of Responsibility
Community & Government Affairs
- Research and attend community-based programs and events; support outreach activities including to local block association meetings, tenant groups, and other similar organizations
- Support the development and execution of events and projects that increase the Yard's community engagement and presence;
- Identify opportunities for BNYDC team members to volunteer in the hyperlocal community, both in conjunction with local CBOs and directly with community partners
- Review all community meeting and partnerships requests and provide background or briefing memos for organizational leadership
- Coordinate outreach campaigns and facilitate other cross-collaboration initiatives as needed
- Manage BNYDC's contact lists for government officials and community partners to ensure information is accurate
- Monitor proposed legislation impacting organizational operations and mission
Tours
- Review incoming tour requests and provide analyses for designated BNYDC tour leaders
- Coordinate approved tours, including preparing materials, supporting tour execution, and following up with tour participants
- Learn the Past, Present, and Future of the Navy Yard, delivering individual sections of tours, and leading tours for select visitors

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- 3+ years of experience in External Affairs, outreach, government affairs, non-profits, or relevant field
- Experience working in a non-profit environment preferred
- Experience as a tour guide, docent, or educator preferred
- Must be available to attend occasional evening/weekend meetings and events
