Senior Controls & Commissioning Engineer

Altura is actively seeking an experienced and highly motivated controls and Commissioning Engineer who can translate real world performance into design and strategy to improve our clients' smart buildings portfolios. We believe that achieving the potential of Smart Buildings requires deep expertise in engineering and the realities of the field combined with strategic vision and ambition to get the job done. Candidates should have a collaborative mindset to help lead cross functional teams within and outside of Altura to achieve robust performance in our built environment.
Scope & Responsibilities:

• Project management of controls systems design and implementation work, encompassing both new construction and existing building retrofit work, spanning early conceptual design through procurement, implementation, and commissioning.
• Project management of commissioning projects encompassing both new construction and existing buildings.
• Development and coordination of detailed controls system designs for complex building types such as healthcare, labs, or high performance institutional real estate. Design elements include including high performance sequences of operations, P&IDs, coordinated points lists, specifications, etc.
• Field investigation and testing to support discovery of existing conditions for control system design work or to support commissioning projects.
• Optional management of a small number of direct reports.
• Collaborate across Altura teams to establish best in class approaches to achieving building performance through the design and implementation of controls systems with integrated data analytics.
• Develop proposals for new projects including client interface to understand project needs and development of fees and proposal language.

Required Qualifications:

• 7-10 years of experience within the controls design and implementation industry including a combination of the following:
  
  • 5 years of project management
  • 5 years of primary designer of HVAC controls for commercial buildings
  • 2 years of in field implementation support including commissioning
• Expertise in AutoCAD Revit platform for drawing creation and management
• Excellent interpersonal skills and proven track record of building collaboration within teams to solve complex problems.

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated excellence in authoring and troubleshooting high performance HVAC controls sequences.
• Demonstrated excellence in field commissioning of MEP systems that may include HVAC, lighting, electrical, or plumbing systems.
• Demonstrated innovation in managing commissioning projects to drive performance.
• Significant experience with proposal development including client interaction, effort estimation, and proposal authoring
• Experience using SkySpark, or a similar data analytics platform, to analyze performance including identification of non-optimized operation, root cause analysis, and potential solutions to issues.
• Experience in designing controls systems for implementation within the Niagara framework, including integration, programming, or specification.
• Experience with information technology systems as it relates to control systems interacting with client infrastructure including interfacing with client IT teams and understanding the tools and techniques for managing control system data across different layers of network architecture.
• Experience with the procurement of controls systems vendors including development of bid documents and evaluation of proposals.

Location:
Work location is flexible; preference for candidates who can be based in either our Oakland, CA or Newport Beach, CA office on a hybrid basis; periodic travel is expected.

Base salaries will be determined by factors such as geographic location, education, skills, experience, and market considerations. For this role the annual base salary range is $150,000 - $175,000.
