POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Communications Officer oversees and implements the media relations and original written content development plan of the foundation. This role reports to the Vice President of Communications and works closely with the other members of the communications team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The Denver Foundation seeks a community-focused Senior Communications Officer who centers on mission-based work supporting the foundation?s vision, mission, and purpose. Our Senior Communications Officer oversees and implements the original written content development plan of the foundation, including the social media plan.
The Senior Communications Officer reports to the vice president of communications and requires proven experience and success in media relations, marketing, communications, and writing for publications, including editing. This role must also have proven experience executing multifaceted external communications or marketing strategies for an established organization, including creation of social media content.
This is a full-time position in Denver, Colorado. We work on a hybrid schedule of at least two days in-office (Monday and Thursday required). The starting salary for this position is $69,700 to $82,000 per year. This position is salaried, exempt, and eligible for all the foundation?s benefits. Benefits include paid time off, retirement (403(b)) contribution, tuition assistance, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. The starting salary will be based on experience.

The Senior Communications Officer will develop and execute a plan for written content in partnership with the vice president of communications, serve as the primary author of original written communications content for the foundation, including monthly and quarterly segmented e-newsletters, publications (e.g., Noteworthy), blogs, and social media content. This position will develop and execute a social media plan in partnership with the VP of communications, and generate original, high-quality multimedia content, including text, images, graphics, and videos, tailored to different social media platforms. The position will also work closely with the other members of the communications team and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in the following key areas:
- Writing stories related to fundraising communication
- Strategic and creative thinking when coming up with ideas for stories
- Experience with social media content creation
- Proofreading and copyediting
- Telling stories of donors, volunteers, staff, and community residents
- Working well independently while also effectively collaborating with others
- Effectively communicating with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization, as well as effectively communicating with external stakeholders
Candidates must possess the following:
- At least seven years of proven experience and success in media relations, marketing, communications, and/or writing for publications, including editing
- At least seven years of experience executing multifaceted external communications or marketing strategies for an established organization, including the creation of social media content
- Advanced proficiency in AP style, proofreading and copyediting.
