Job Summary: This position is responsible for the general supervision of kitchen activities, coordination and implementation of a nutritious meal program for senior adults under guidelines from the Division of Aging Services provided in a safe and sanitary environment as required by the State Health Department.
Major Duties:
- Cook nutritious meals according to menus provided by the Area Agency on Aging
- Serve meals to seniors and monitor portion sizes
- Prepare food and package meals for home delivery meal program
- Oversee and assist with home delivery meal program and deliver meals, as needed
- Monitor and maintain the cleaning of the kitchen, dining room and equipment upon meal completion to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations in order to pass inspections
- Maintain supply inventory and rotate stock of food items and inventory in kitchen
- Place weekly order with food distributor staying within provided budget
- Set up dining room for meals
- Assist Senior Center Manager with activities, as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge Required by the Position:
- Obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain ServSafe certification
- Knowledge of proper methods utilized in food service
- Knowledge of kitchen appliances and care of utensils
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning supplies
- Skill in dealing with public using tact and courtesy
- Ability to cook nutritious and appealing meals following menus provided by the Area Agency on Aging
- Ability to read and write simple correspondence
- Ability of follow oral and written correspondence
- Ability to communicate information to seniors, community members and other employees of the organization
- Ability to observe proper safety precautions and procedures in kitchen and maintain guidelines as provided by the Health Department
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, senior adults and volunteers at the Senior Center and Parks and Recreation Department.
Supervisory Controls: Work is assigned by the Senior Center Manager
Guidelines: Guidelines include departmental and various program goals and objectives
Complexity: The work consists of a variety of food preparation and cleaning activities
Scope and Effect: The purpose of this position is to contribute to a healthy, safe and positive atmosphere for seniors through the preparation and distribution of meals

Physical Demands: The work is typically performed with the employee standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects
Work Environment: The work is typically performed in a kitchen and dining room setting
Supervisory and Management Responsibility: Kitchen aides and Home Delivery Meal coordinator
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and must have a valid GA driver's license. Previous kitchen experience required.
