In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will lead and develop high performance backend services and systems for GM Commercial Services' new software solution. This role provides a unique opportunity where you will be working across all of the GM Commercial Services software products, and truly steering the future of GM Commercial Services’ system architecture, APIs, products, and customers. What you get to do in this role:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable and performant services and systems

  • Build and launch new capabilities and products that bring significant value to customers internal and external

  • Uphold our high engineering standards, and elevate quality and engineering efficiency within our codebases and processes

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization including dependency engineering teams, product, design, infrastructure and operations

  • Mentor engineers earlier in their technical career to help them grow

  • Explore new technologies and enrich our technological stack 

  • Actively participate in technical discussions and deep dives with architectural group

Additional Description

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of hands-on backend software development

  • Experience in building production-quality, highly performant and scalable distributed systems and Service-Oriented architecture

  • Write high quality production code that is tested thoroughly, supported by clear documentation and has appropriate production observability

  • Strong CS fundamentals, including OO concepts, data structures, algorithms, and systems architecture

  • Solid understanding and experience with NoSQL and relational DB

  • Empathy with users internal and external, and a strong customer focus

  • Have effective collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong product focus and acumen.

  • Experience working independently and drive features or components throughout the development lifecycle

  • Experience in one of the JVM languages Java / Scala / Kotlin + SpringBoot.  Language can be learned and we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework

  • Experience with at least one of the public cloud providers Azure, AWS, GCP 

  • Experience with IoT stack is a big plus 

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering preferred

This role is catergorized as Hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite three times per week at minimum.


The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant in the California Bay Area which includes the following counties: Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz might be paid in accordance with the California law.

The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The annual salary range for this role is $ 152,100  - $ 232,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
