Position Summary
As a key member of the Rice Business AV group, the Senior AV Technician provides expert-level AV support and service to the school's faculty, staff, and students. The Senior AV Technician will provide leadership in response to a wide range of AV support needs, ensuring that all AV systems are managed and maintained according to Rice Business needs and expectations. Serving as the "first responder" for AV issues or needs in all Rice Business managed facilities, the Sr. AV Technician is broadly responsible for assisting faculty and other system users in the use of instructional technologies, providing technical assistance to users as support needs arise, and alerting appropriate IT system support staff of outages and other issues when they occur.
Workplace Requirements
This position is a full-time on-campus position with requirements to work before and after regular business hours, including weekends as needed and in rotation with other members of the Rice Business AV team.
Proposed Hiring Range:
Minimum $27/hour, with hiring salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

- Associate's Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted.
- 3 years of professional tech/multimedia experience

Skills Required
- Proficient in the operation of a variety of audio, visual, and other multimedia equipment, components, and applications
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair multimedia equipment.
- Ability to find and diagnose common system configuration problems.
- Must be able to teach the use of audiovisual equipment and software and audiovisual systems to faculty, staff & students.
Essential Functions
- Provide expert-level AV technical support to all Rice Business AV users, prioritizing instructional support needs and ensuring AV equipment and set-up throughout Rice Business meets or exceeds expectations.
- Provide training to new and junior AV Technicians, ensuring staff remain abreast of new trends, technologies, and maintenance skills in supporting complex AV systems.
- Identifying maintenance needs and scheduling routine upkeep and repairs as needed
- Inventory management, including shipping and receiving.
- Providing and overseeing AV support needs at events, including on evenings and weekends
- Troubleshooting AV assets; monitoring system/equipment life cycles and making recommendations for ongoing maintenance and upkeep as needed
Additional Functions
- Supervises AV interns and/or student employees.
- Sets up, manages, and maintains the technical AV equipment for events, classes, meetings, conferences, presentations, videos, etc.
- Produces, captures, edits, and publishes videos as needed.
- Prepares Rice Business spaces with proper AV equipment for specific events and monitors events to ensure equipment is functioning as expected.
- Continuously monitors AV equipment to ensure all AV presentations and equipment run smoothly.
- Installs, diagnoses, resolves, repairs, and monitors media systems, components, and equipment.
- Provides support for live presentations, recordings, and webinar programs.
- Provide visual graphics, audio tracks, and lighting when needed.
- Provides before and after hours and weekend AV support as needed.
Preferences
- Professional experience (2-3 years) providing technical AV support in a higher education setting.
- Prior experience (2-3 years) leading junior team members.
