This is a lab-based position within the Molecular Biology Assay Development function, Bioanalytical Discovery and Development Sciences (BDDS) group. BDDS is responsible for providing bioanalytical data across Janssen's entire portfolio, from discovery through post-marketing, across all therapeutic areas, and supporting all modalities. This position is responsible for developing, validating, and conducting qPCR based bioanalytical methods related to therapeutic vaccines, cell and gene therapies across all therapeutic areas of J&J, spanning nonclinical studies to post-market clinical development.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the development, optimization, and implementation of qPCR and RT-qPCR (and possibly other) assays for biodistributions studies related to therapeutic vaccines, cell, and gene therapies.
  • Work independently at individual experiment level by interpreting data and proposing next steps; recognize when to seek the manager's guidance.
  • Apply scientific expertise to evaluate alternative technologies, troubleshoot Molecular Biology assays, and write experimental summaries.
  • Can present experimental data to internal project teams.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety procedures, and federal GLP/GCP guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Analyze non-clinical and clinical study samples when necessary.
  • Perform as a member of a team, interacting with internal and external colleagues, other Departments (such as Quality Assurance, Safety, and Research), and outside vendors, as needed.
  • May be responsible for leading or training other scientists regarding process, techniques, or tasks.
  • Identify and correct issues that arise with people/procedures/processes.
  • Disseminate information via written and oral communications.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Masters in biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific field with at least 6 years of proven experience in a laboratory setting OR bachelor's in biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific field with at least with at least 9 years of proven experience in a laboratory setting
Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Laboratory experience working with DNA and RNA isolation from biological matrices is required.
  • Developing qPCR and RT-qPCR assays for DNA and mRNA quantitation is required.
  • Prior experience with therapeutic vaccines, cell and gene therapies is desired.
  • Clinical diagnosis for viral serological testing with qPCR methods is a plus.
  • Previous experience coordinating assay development and validation at external partners is desired.
  • Previous experience validating assays in a Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience with automation platforms (e.g., Hamilton STAR), Watson LIMS and electronic lab notebooks is preferred.
  • Prior experience with handling of biological matrices from animal and human subjects is required.
