Our science and technology team is looking for a Senior Algorithm Engineer to join the checkpoint algorithm development group. This individual will investigate new detection techniques for explosives, narcotics, and other threats for homeland security. They will be involved in the development of automated detection algorithms for contraband in air/sea cargo and passenger baggage in aviation screening applications.
Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test automated detection algorithms for a range of inspection modalities including single and multi-energy, multi-view x-ray transmission, x-ray backscatter, x-ray computed tomography, metal detectors, and others as the need arises.
• Work independently to turn general requirement definitions into functioning software.
• Review and evaluate current state-of-the-art machines by learning and object detection methods to establish the IP landscape.
• Share knowledge and expertise across the algorithm development team and provide mentorship and technical support to junior members on the team.
• Communicate and collaborate with other development team members and comply with Rapiscan Systems' internal software development processes and procedures.
• Responsible for delivering fully functional software per schedule as agreed upon during project's planning phase.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in Medical Imaging, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field desired. A combination of equivalent industrial experience and education may be substituted in lieu of degree.
• 7+ years of relevant experience required.
• Experience working with object detection, image segmentation, feature extraction, statistical analysis, boosting algorithms like random forests, deep learning, GANs or similar desired.
• Experience in signal processing, image analysis and target recognition for security, medical applications, or related field preferred.
• Experience using deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, image processing development toolkits (e.g., OpenCV, MATLAB) and open-source libraries desired.
• Capable of testing, evaluating, and deploying algorithms.
• Strong in Python and C++ software development on Windows and Linux.
• Experience with cloud-based services such as AWS is a plus.
• Experience with source code control desired.
• Self-motivation and enthusiasm for problem solving.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain SSI clearance.
