As a Senior Accounting Specialist, you will report to the Financial Reporting Officer and Controller and carry out various functions related to financial reporting and accounting. You will also collaborate with other accounting professionals to ensure accuracy and compliance in all aspects of your work. The Senior Accounting Specialist also oversees and enhances the productivity of Accounting Specialists.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Managing and optimizing efficiency of Accounting Specialists;
• Leading and coaching others; supervising and evaluating the quality of their performance;
• Staying updated on Accounting Department functions to provide guidance and backup when required;
• Investigating, tracking, and resolving accounting issues or discrepancies that may occur;
• Supporting the preparation of budgets and periodic analysis of budget variances as needed;
• Carrying out tasks that help ensure timely and accurate preparations of financial and regulatory reports;
• Prepare bank and holding company regulatory Call Reports on a quarterly basis;
• Assisting in any tasks related to the preparation of required SEC-related filings;
• Gain knowledge on all general ledger account reconciliations and activity/transactions that occur in each GL account;
• Become fully proficient in our two accounting systems in order to research general ledger, accounting and transaction related questions and issues;
• Providing assistance to other Accounting Department functions as needed;
• Reviewing and monitoring department changes to identify areas that affect current policy and procedures;
• Exercising independent judgment in drafting and implementing changes to policy and procedures, subject to Executive approval;
• Adhering to privacy policies and procedures to maintain customer confidentiality and information protection;
• Complying with all federal, state and local regulatory rules and regulations governing financial institutions, as well as all Company policies and procedures;
• Completing and passing all required regulatory compliance training as assigned;
• Performing such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be assigned by management;
• Being positive and communicate areas of interest or learning goals;
• Bringing areas of inefficiency and process improvement ideas to management's attention.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Detail oriented;
• Exhibit strong drive, initiative and ability to take on new tasks with minimal up-front guidance;
• Several years of experience working analytically with financial reports;
• Strong analytical, time management and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures;
• Proficient in Excel, 10-key by touch, Word, Outlook and Adobe PDF;
• Ability to work both independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that emphasizes accuracy and timeliness.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
• Associates degree in accounting or related discipline is preferred;
• Minimum 5 years previous general accounting experience;
• Minimum 1 year experience in a leadership role.
