Job brief
The Senior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of full-cycle month-end closing and acts as the backup for accounts payable and settlements and disbursements. Duties will include preparing and posting journal entries, cash disbursements, cash receipts, daily cash reports, bank reconciliations, helping with the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly schedules. The Senior Accountant ensures the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger and related accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
· Applies knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to the preparation of journal entries for posting to the general ledger, financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analysis during the monthly close.
· Reviews general ledger for accuracy and prepares all necessary accruals, amortizations, and reclassifications to complete the final monthly close package to ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
· Analyzes balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy; prepares balance sheet reconciliations with detailed explanations of account balances.
· Reconciles current month cash receipts; prepares cash and IOLTA reconciliations for balancing current month cash balances with supporting bank documents.
· Reviews and responds to requests from Attorneys regarding various settlement and disbursement issues and implements corrective actions to resolve.
· Serves as a backup for Accounts Payable.
· Applies manual payments for settlement disbursements paid via wire transfers.
· Apply manual payments for invoices paid via ACH/wire transfer.
· Book all bank transfers as well as corresponding revenue and expense entries for settlements.
· Book all deposits into Great Plains.
· Payroll entries, using Alliance, also 401-K duties.
· Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.
Requirements:
· BA/BS in Finance/Accounting or related field.
· 3-5 years accounting/finance or related experience.
· Plaintiff Law Firm Experience a plus.
· Understanding of Settlement & Disbursements a plus.
· Experience using Great Plains accounting software is a plus.
· Knowledge of GAAP, financial terms, and principles, including cash and accrual accounting methods.
· Attention to detail and accuracy with quantitative data and financial calculations.
· Customer service orientation to provide effective and efficient support to internal attorneys.
· Knowledge and skills to manage projects, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain appropriate discretion.
· Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
