Job Summary
The Senior Account Director will independently manage all aspects of assigned clients, direct CM cross-functional team, and serve as the client lead. The Sr. Account Director will drive the development and execution of a wide range of medical communications initiatives including live and virtual meetings, content development, scientific narratives, speaker training, and congress activities. Further, is responsible for driving organic growth by understanding clients’ therapeutic areas, business challenges, and strategic imperatives and recommending ClinicalMind services that support their strategic evolution and business growth. The Senior Account Director will lead clients’ annual brand planning process in conjunction with the cross-functional team and Group Account Supervisor. This individual will mentor junior team members.
Job Responsibilities and Skills
- Serve as the senior member of the day-to-day account team, manage client requests/projects, and direct CM cross-functional team with oversight from the Group Account Supervisor.
- Lead multiple clients simultaneously. Understand client preferences, SOPs, business conduct guidance, and PRC requirements, and ensure CM follows them.
- Establish and maintain a thorough knowledge of client organizations, products, disease states, and marketing strategies.
- Ensure client expectations are met or exceeded on all levels by maintaining ongoing communication (written and verbal) with client and internal team members and troubleshooting problems/issues as necessary.
- Build strong client relationships, listen for new business/growth opportunities, and foster organic growth through excellent client service and project execution.
- Review work in development for quality and consistency with a focus on brand strategy and program objectives.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of ClinicalMind’s service offerings and processes and contribute to the development of innovative service offerings.
- Lead annual brand planning process in collaboration with cross-functional team and client.
- Prepare proposals/budgets and scope change documents.
- Financial management including internal/client accruals, reconciliations, and forecasting.
- Meets regularly with the VP/Group Account Supervisor on the overall status of assigned accounts, project financials, and personnel issues/progress; proactively flags need for strategic/senior-level support.
- Facilitate conflict resolution within and between departments or between account team members.
- Participate in and/or lead team meetings. Work with Account Director(s) in preparing for calls.
- Collaborate with Project Manager to develop and manage timelines, as well as track scope throughout the program.
- Responsible for managing workload and mentoring junior team members (1-3 staff).
- Oversee the PRC submission/review process.
- Comfortable working under pressure within tight deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 7-9 years of progressive medical communications account management experience, with 2-3 years in a senior role with responsibility for team management and project financials. Has extensive experience with live meetings, content development, and PRC submissions for a wide range of clients in several therapeutic areas.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple clients simultaneously; think strategically and grow business; and lead the team in exceptional project execution.
- Strong leadership experience – account team and program direction.
- Consulting skills and proven solution development expertise. Ability to read clients’ feedback to identify opportunities for brand/account growth and executional improvement.
- Product launch experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to quickly grasp and retain scientific and technical concepts.
- Must be extremely organized and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
- The ideal candidate will be an intelligent, quick, forward-looking and strategic thinker who is team-oriented, collegial, proactive and predisposed to act as a confidential partner to the senior management team.
- A sense of humor is considered an important quality as is a natural, optimistic attitude.
- The Senior Account Director must have well-developed interpersonal skills, as well as strong oral and written communication abilities. This director will be an exceptional listener with the ability to relate to a wide variety of clients and adapt to their needs.
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, strong presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the OIG, AMA, PhRMA and other regulatory agencies' guidelines and policies in relation to supported promotional and educational activities.
- Ability to meet some physical demands in the way of lifting of boxes and meeting materials.
- May require up to 20% travel to projects and client meetings. Must be able to travel internationally when required.
