The Secondary Math Lead Teacher is a district-level position responsible for leading and coordinating curriculum, instruction, and professional learning for mathematics in secondary schools. This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues. The Secondary Math Lead Teacher is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in lessons through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to 6-12 teachers. This is an eleven-month position that is funded through a grant, expiring September 30, 2026. Position reports to the TSL grant administrator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership and guidance in the implementation of the Secondary Mathematics instructional program to improve fidelity of implementation.
- Collaborates with the Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Specialist as well as site administrators to ensure program continuity from grade to grade and among schools.
- Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback and assistance to facilitate improvement and innovation of Secondary Mathematics curriculum.
- Models and co-teaches and holds coaching conversations with teachers in order to build capacity for mathematics leadership with Instructional Facilitators and administrators.
- Collaborates and plans with Secondary Math teachers to ensure alignment of lessons to the NCSCoS and the EOG/EOC testing specifications. Facilitates teacher understanding of math standards.
- Models continuous learning by maintaining a current understanding of research, trends, and best practices in Secondary Mathematics through a variety of self-directed and collegial professional development opportunities.
- Leads the development and implementation of Secondary Mathematics curriculum maps, compacting, and pacing guides.
- Leads with a vision for curriculum and professional learning that aligns with the Asheboro City Schools Strategic Plan, and unites others under a shared mission and purpose.
- Uses data to prioritize, plan, facilitate, evaluate, and sustain professional learning opportunities that enhance program services and improve instruction.
- Connects professional learning with best instructional practices for a variety of adult learners.
- Attends curriculum and instruction meetings and curriculum conversation meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree required, National Board Certification or doctorate preferred.
- Minimum five years experience as an instructional coach or higher (district-level preferred), with a record of successfully impacting student achievement through leading and growing teachers.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
- Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
- Proven ability in using student data to guide instructional decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build mutual trust and credibility with teachers and administrators in order to create change.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Strong presentation skills, demonstrated understanding of best practices for adult learners with diverse learning styles
- Experience using technology to facilitate professional learning.
- Experience in leading professional learning for a variety of audiences, state or national experience preferred.
- Knowledge of and practical experience with the MTSS framework of support
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and create quality work while adhering to deadlines and budgets
- Ability to work independently to achieve objectives
- Strong time management skills
