The City of Sammamish is recruiting for eight (8) Seasonal Maintenance Workers for the summer with start dates most any week! Join us for a good weather summer while caring for Sammamish's amazing parks for between $20-$26 per hour. Wage will be dependent on experience.

This summer, you'll catch events like 4th on the plateau, Summer Concerts in the Park, and Music in The Sun while you care for Sammamish parks. People who would enjoy this role likely do landscaping, outdoor cleaning, care for their neighborhood, or know how to safely use equipment like push mowers, rakes, and shovels.
This role lasts a maximum of 6 months from the day of hire and sees a 40-hour week with optional overtime. Our Seasonal Maintenance Workers provide support to our entire team so you may see weekday, evening, or weekend hours. Our management team works with each member to set reliable and regular schedule that can accommodate other commitments. You will work closely with our Lead Maintenance Workers and report to the Parks Resource Superintendent.
Please have a valid driver's license since we do have driving equipment.
What will my average day look like as a Seasonal Maintenance Worker?
You may do general maintenance duties including: preparing our athletic fields at assigned city park sites; vegetation control; litter and trash collection; and asphalt, concrete, gravel and trail repairs. You will work with a range of powered equipment. This role also tends to our public events during the summer. Our Maintenance Workers usually see the opportunity to do basic and more complex work every week.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Perform routine tasks such as weeding, raking, watering, hand mowing, edging, shoveling, litter pick-up, cleaning and repairing trails, ponds, streets, grounds and other public facilities.
  2. Support our full-time maintenance staff with ongoing park projects
  3. Use tools or equipment including: push mowers, light-duty trucks; power edgers, backpack & hand-held blowers and string trimmers; shovels, rakes, etc.
Minimum Qualifictaions
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience in maintenance or other related work preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. Ability and interest in outdoor maintenance work in all types of weather.
Special Requirements
  • Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • Will be required to wear steel-toed boots while working.
  • Ability to conform to drug and alcohol testing requirements under the federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
  • Applicants may be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol tests and physical examinations.
Abilities
  • Learn general principles of landscape & facility maintenance.
  • Safely operate light-duty trucks, hand mowers, and a variety of hand tools used in maintenance.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and perform a variety of physical tasks and heavy labor.
  • Get along with others and work as a member of a team.
  • Identify work hazards and practice general safety procedures.
  • Interact with the public in an effective, customer friendly manner.
  • Communicate information effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work independently without direct supervision in the field.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of maintenance equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee often works near moving mechanical parts in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk; use hands or fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, climb stairs / ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Duties are performed primarily outdoors in a variety of terrain, under a variety of weather conditions, including sun, rain, wind, mud, and snow, for periods of approximately eight hours/day. Duties are frequently performed working alone, but may sometimes be performed as part of a work team. Conditions at work sites may include falling objects, loose footings, loud noises, construction equipment, and working in right-of-way, traffic, or roadways.
