This position is remote based in a state in the US where WRI is registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.
About the Program:
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol is the world's leading authority and international standard setter on corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting. Over 92% of Fortune 500 companies that report emissions data to CDP rely on the GHG Protocol standards and guidance. Building on a twenty-year partnership between World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the GHG Protocol works with governments, industry associations, NGOs, businesses, and other organizations. The GHG Protocol also provides standards; tools and online training to help countries and cities track progress towards their climate goals.
Job Highlight:
Reporting to Deputy Director, GHG Protocol, you will develop updates and additional guidance for the GHG ProtocolScope 3 Standard and Scope 3 Technical Guidance and related tools and resources to help implement the Scope 3 Standard. The scope of potential updates and additional guidance will be determined based on the results of a recent global survey and with multi-stakeholder Technical Working Group (TWG) consultations. You will support planning and executing the development process for updates and additional guidance, which will involve engaging with members of the global, multi-stakeholder Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Scope 3 Standard and Technical Guidance. You will also develop technical support resources, guidance, and tools based on the existing GHG ProtocolScope 3 Standard and Scope 3 Technical Guidance, to facilitate continued use and adoption of the current Scope 3 Standard. You will work as part of a dynamic team and support the work of the GHG Protocol generally as needs arise. You will work with technical experts at WRI, WBCSD, and other GHG Protocol teams. You will work with other Scope 3 Senior Associate, as part of the Scope 3 team.
What will you do:
Develop updates, additional guidance, tools and resources for the GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard and Scope 3 Calculation Guidance and support the updates process(75%):-

  • Be a technical lead for the development of updates and additional guidance for the GHG ProtocolScope 3 Standard and Scope 3 Calculation Guidance through a multi-stakeholder process Conduct research and stakeholder consultations on Scope 3 accounting to understand needs and proposed solutions for updates or new guidance for Scope 3 Standard, Scope 3 Calculation Guidance and new Scope 3 tools and resources
  • Research guidelines developed by other initiatives and coordinate with other programs such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), CDP, industry-specific initiatives and other climate disclosure programs and standards to assess interoperability and harmonization
  • Engage with different stakeholders from business, government, civil society, and academia during the updates process
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, issue briefs, proposals, or other materials as part of the standard and guidance development process, and present on behalf of GHG Protocol at external events and program engagements

Develop and maintain GHG Protocol support, guidance, calculation tools, and resources for the Scope 3 Standard and Calculation Guidance to promote adoption and effective use by organizations (25%):-
  • Review external methodologies and Scope 3 GHG accounting guidance and tools developed by external organizations as part of "Built on GHG Protocol" review service
  • Identify, specify, and/or develop new tools, templates, and resources (e.g., calculation tools, emission factor databases, data transfer templates, reporting templates) to support more widespread, robust, and effective Scope 3 accounting and reporting (tools may be developed in-house or contracted out via RFPs)
  • Contribute to Scope 3 training materials and e-learning courses led by the Technical Support & Training team and Learning Program at GHG Protocol
  • Provide technical advice to users of the GHG ProtocolScope 3 Standard as needs arise
  • Support other Greenhouse Gas Protocol projects and activities during the updates process as needs arise

What will you need:
  • Education: You have a Master's degree preferably in environmental science, environmental policy, or a related field.
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 10 years of work experience knowledge, and skills in greenhouse gas accounting, climate change mitigation, life cycle assessment, or related field
  • You have familiarity and knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards, corporate GHG accounting and reporting, Scope 3 accounting for various Scope 3 categories (with a preference for experience on transportation and distribution, purchased goods and services, purchased energy/electricity, and waste management), experience across industries and/or sectors, life cycle assessment, and/or related subjects
  • Experience in project management and in leading and managing a multi-stakeholders process and proven ability to build partnerships and consensus with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Languages: Written and spoken proficiency in English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: Salary range is between 116,000 and 139,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
