Senior Paralegal Job Summary:
The Paralegal will assist attorneys by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; research, investigations and fact checking; and trial preparation.

Paralegal Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
- Assists in preparing, drafting, formatting, and proof-reading legal documents, including (non-exhaustive): filings, Summons/Civil Cover Sheets, demand letters, EEO affidavits including collection of client information, discovery responses including collection of client information.
- Files motions and pleadings according to forum procedures.
- Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys for internal use and case applications.
- As needed, coordinates and schedules all aspects of litigation and manages calendared deadlines including (non-exhaustive): court reporters; service of complaints, summons, and subpoenas with external vendors; depositions.
- Supports client management by scheduling calls, acquiring information, managing deadlines, etc.
- Prepares, organizes, and stores case files in Box (cloud file storage and management system).
- Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings, creating trial binders.
- Calculates attorney’s fees and assists with fee petitions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Trains and supervises one or two junior paralegals and administrative support staff, as needed. Junior paralegals generally do not have paralegal certifications or any other formal training. Administrative support staff perform duties in reception, scheduling, office operations, and external and internal accounts management and perform duties as junior paralegals.
- Oversees delegation of tasks to and ensures balanced task load among paralegals and other support staff.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience conducting legal research using Westlaw or similar platforms.
- Expert-level knowledge and experience in filing requirements (i.e. subpoenas, Appellate briefs) for state and federal courts.
- Expert-level understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple deadlines at once.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) or related software.
Required Education and Experience:
- Expert-level knowledge and experience in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
- Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.
- Paralegal certificate required.
- Paralegal and/or litigation experience at a mid-size or larger law firm preferred.
- Some managerial or supervisory experience highly valued, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to work in-person with teleworking flexibility as permitted.
- Expected to work approximately 8:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Compensation:
- Salaried position with base $70,000 - $105,000, commensurate with candidates’ qualifications and experience
