Science Partner Journals Production Associate

AAAS has an exciting opportunity for a Science Partner Journals Production Associate to join our Publishing Department! This is a unique opportunity to be involved with the development of the growing Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program (journals published by AAAS in collaboration with other societies). As the SPJ Production Associate, you will oversee the production process for all SPJ titles with responsibility for successfully guiding articles from acceptance through final publication online. Working under the guidance of the Product Development Manager and closely with the Product Team, you will collaborate with third-party vendors to bring cutting-edge scientific content to a global audience. Your responsibilities will span from ensuring high production quality standards to coordinating with authors and vendors, overseeing style guides and XML requirements, and optimizing workflows. You'll be the driving force behind the seamless execution of the SPJ titles, contributing significantly to the success and impact of AAAS in the scientific community.

What You’ll Do

• Review final files, ensuring adherence to SPJ quality standards, addressing style/compliance issues, and managing post-publication corrections
• Serve as the point of contact for the production of SPJ articles, responding to author queries, communicating with vendors, and coordinating with journal editorial offices
• Maintain and update the SPJ style guide, standardizing formatting across the SPJ program, and developing content accessibility guidelines
• Optimize production workflows, implementing improvements to production processes, policies, and tools
• Prepare regular reports on production metrics, including analyzing efficiency, quality, and costs, and identifying trends
• Troubleshoot XML and website display issues, edit XML, and resolve content deposit errors to external databases
• Collaborate on occasional duties, including new product efforts, strategic/planning meetings, trainings, and researching industry trends

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in scholarly publishing
• Experience with submission and production management systems, and online journal platforms 
• Copyediting and/or proofreading experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills 
• Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through 
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks 
• Proficiency in XML or proven ability to learn markup language 
• Experience with project management 
• Must be self-directed and have the ability to work with minimal supervision

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is 55,000 per year.
