Darien School District 61 is seeking a child-centered School Psychologist with a high degree of energy, initiative and flexibility, in addition to well-developed interpersonal skills.
The role of the School Psychologist in D61 is to work collaboratively with administration and staff to meet the needs of students.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This school-year internship position provides experiences and guidance in providing school psychological services. Experiences will provide an opportunity for supervised practice of a range of school psychological services consistent with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) domains of School Psychology Training and Practice including, but not limited to, assessment and evaluation linked to intervention for academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs; active participation in school-based problem-solving teams (e.g., multi-tiered systems of support [MTSS], child find); instructional consultation with teachers regarding student functioning, behavior analysis and intervention; individual and group counseling; and prevention. All duties to be performed in accordance with both federal law and state statute, Illinois State Board of Education policies and procedures, and Darien School District 61 Board policy.
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE - KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in, or have completed a school psychology practicum and working towards a Masters, Educational Specialist, or Ph.D./Ed.D./Psy.D. in school psychology at a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP-) approved university
  • Must be pursuing an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Psychologist endorsement and eligible to receive licensure at internship completion
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the school community
  • Management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of audiences ? Ability to interpret, analyze, and use data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent observation and listening skills
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
The tasks listed below are representative of the essential performance responsibilities. Tasks assigned to individuals will vary based on student needs and it is possible not all duties will be performed in any given year. However individuals must be able to perform the following duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, as assigned by their supervisor.
  • Effective and practical data-based decision-making across all practice areas
  • Identify evaluation measures to match referral questions
  • Interpret evaluation results
  • Write evaluation reports, share evaluation results, make psychoeducational recommendations that meet the needs of different constituents (e.g., parents, teachers, adult service agencies, etc.)
  • Become an active and contributing participant in team problem-solving meetings
  • Provide individual and group counseling; create a schedule, plan or co-plan treatment, build rapport, identify and document progress toward counseling goals
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Conduct and write functional behavior assessment(s) and behavior intervention plan(s)
  • Develop academic and social-emotional plans to support students within a multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) model
  • Participate in efforts to effect systems change, particularly supporting the district's effort to create a data-driven multi-tiered systems of support
  • Consult and collaborate with colleagues, administrators, families, and students
  • Complete an internship rotation in an elementary/middle school district
  • Follow ethical standards and laws while becoming an advocate for students and families and balancing the needs of the public school

SUPERVISION:
Weekly supervision will be provided by Illinois State Board of Education credentialed and licensed School Psychologists. School psychology interns will learn the skills needed to engage in the essential job functions of a fully-licensed and credentialed School Psychologist aligned with National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) practice domains.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job requires physical attendance at the workplace and does not have an option for virtual work time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and see, talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion and up to 10 pounds regularly/daily. The employee may be required to push wheelchairs, assist with lifting of students, and provide other physical assistance to students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to read type or hand written material. There is frequent computer and phone work. The noise level in the work environment is that of a high school and can be loud when in places like gyms and cafeterias. The employee is continuously interacting with students and staff.
