GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Oversee, lead, monitor, and manage a team of drivers; Services open residential and commercial
routes, supporting drivers to complete routes, and provides other operational support as directed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead, coach, mentor, train and assist a crew of drivers to help complete routes in a timely
manner.
- Responsible for training new drivers on assigned equipment and follow-up management with
findings.
- Train new drivers on assigned routes/, cross- train existing drivers on alternate
routes/equipment.
- Operates compaction and lift equipment on automated side-loader, front-loader, grapple truck
and dump bed pick-up truck.
- Service vacant commercial and residential routes, including grapple, when needed.
- Communicate via radio with management, front office staff and drivers while in the field.
- Assist management with daily tasks including reports, training, and route observations.
- Maintains training documentation and records of all driver training.
- Inspect all cabs at random to confirm cleanliness and overall fitness.
- Monitor drivers daily pre/post trip inspections, address findings with maintenance staff, and
ensure drivers conduct proper inspections.
- Observes and coach new drivers on recognizing safety hazards, proper operation of the
equipment and improving route efficiencies.
- Complete assigned work orders, resolve and communicate customer service issues with front
office staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma. Two (2) years
commercial driving experience in the Transportation Industry or related work, including some
experience in the Solid Waste Industry.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Minimum of (3) years of commercial driving experience.
- Minimum of (1) year of commercial driving experience in the Solid Waste Industry.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, ANSI, and other related federal, state & local regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend associated documents and maps.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Proven customer service skills.
- Must be able to work independently, make decisions and resolve problems.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends.
- Ability to address operational issues.
- Ability to follow all City of Fort Pierce policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain and portray a positive attitude towards staff and customers.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with a personal and business driving record
