JOB SUMMARY
The Sales ManagerNational Group Sales (NGS), Continent organization manages customer inquiries and lead requests to optimize Marriott's share of revenue, room nights, and catering from a primarily reactive source of customer inquiries related to group, meeting, and extended stay requests. Works with customer to align customer preferences with brand needs and actively up-sells each business opportunity to maximize revenue and drive customer loyalty. Process business correspondence and create contracts and other related booking documentation as required. Inquiry sources include phone, Internet, and referral requests. Demonstrates ability to sell product and services and possesses strong communication skills.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or GED; 2-years' experience in sales and marketing, guest services, front desk, or related professional area.
OR
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major; no previous work experience required.
Preferred:
4-year bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management
Previous hotel experience.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Managing Sales Activities
Respond to telephone and Internet inquires/requests for group, extended stay, and catering business in a timely manner and with proper phone etiquette. Address customer questions and concerns during initial call by use of active listening.
Learn and understand how to identify when the sales opportunity is out of scope or parameters and should be assigned to the appropriate sales channel or sales associate and assign accordingly.
Understand and demonstrate how to qualify each business opportunity and suggest brands and products which support both customer requirements and property business goals.
Establish and maintain complete and up-to-date lead information on each account to ensure accurate reporting.
Focus on ways to improve overall buying processes with emphasis on "ease of doing business".
Monitor all leads in a timely manner and communicate lead status to the appropriate teams.
Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with properties and provide lead status updates.
Attends and completes sales on-boarding training and able to demonstrate consistently in the area of sales and able to meet production goals.
Maintains communication with Leadership regarding performance.
Demonstrate ability to understand trends, opportunities, and market changes and able to share findings and keep leaders informed.
Focus on brand knowledge and able to work with customers to align customer preferences with brand offerings and actively up-sell each business opportunity to maximize revenues and drive customer loyalty.
Verify that business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for quality service delivery.
Develop selling techniques, strong communication skills, and a detailed understanding of property operations, food and beverage.
Work collaboratively with other sales channels to verify sales efforts are coordinated, complementary, and not duplicative.
Focus on understanding the overall market and how to sell against them.
Verify business booked is within property parameters.
Focus on understanding the best opportunities for each property based on market conditions and individual property goals.
Transfer accurate, complete, and timely information to property in accordance with brand standards.
Acquire and demonstrate the ability to actively utilize company marketing initiatives/incentives to close on business.
Analyze and identify areas for potential process improvements and develop best practices.
Leverage other resources and administrative/support staff to achieve personal and team related revenue goals.
Process business correspondence and creates contracts and other related booking documentation as required.
Perform other duties, as assigned by management, to meet business needs.

California Applicants Only: The pay range for this position is $20.01 to $41.17 per hour.
Colorado Applicants Only: The hourly pay range for this position is $20.01 to $37.42.
New York Applicants Only: The pay range for this position is $20.01 to $41.17 per hour.
Washington Applicants Only: The hourly pay range for this position is $20.01 to $41.17. In addition, the position is eligible for a quarterly bonus. Employees will accrue 0.04616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
