Sales Engineer Position in Monrovia, CA
Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 4:30pm
Position Summary: Under minimal supervision of the Inside Sales Manager, this position is responsible for the growth of account base by developing relationships and providing value to assigned current accounts and prospects. This position will work closely with Business Development to expand the company's exposure and engagement within targeted companies, while also supporting sales efforts at new prospects. Provides a combination of pre-sales support consultation services, making creative and innovative recommendations on the use and application of our services, and a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape in which we operate.
Essential Functions:
- Have a solid understanding of the business, locations, and contacts for each assigned customer.
- Maintain and grow existing accounts and build relationships, identify customer needs, sell value added services, present and follow-up on quotations and proposals, and close new business.
- Create sales proposals and pitches – negotiating, drafting, presenting, and closing sales orders.
- Coordinate with manufacturing on all Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) to ensure on-time and proper delivery.
- Ensure timely and accurate return of request for quotations from our customers and prospects; enters appropriate quote into our JobBoss or Paperless tracking system; and follows up with customer or prospect to determine status of quotation. Preferably within 2-3 days or per customer due date request.
- Ensure that Business Development Reps are informed of all new customers, their appropriate contacts, new prospects, and new quotations and inquiries.
- Make price and material recommendations to customers.
- Stay up to date with competitive activities and competitors’ positions in the marketplace.
- Maintain and deploy effective sales tools, training materials, and demonstrations.
- Act as a technical support resource for Outside Sales.
- Ensure that required services and samples are available for demonstration.
- Ensure that new customer contacts and prospects have the latest in the Company’s literature and marketing materials.
- Ensure that each job has a specification and layout diagram (blueprint) and verify the completeness of applicable documentation.
- Verify the terms of the contract (Purchase Order) with the conditions of the RFQ.
- Load Purchase Orders and Drawings into Docuware and index accordingly.
- Update and modify Outlook contact list to reflect changes and additions to our customer/prospect database.
- Occasional travel to visit customers, prospective clients, vendors and/or attend trade shows may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Estimate costs to include all processes, procedures, quality requirements, and tooling.
- Cycle time estimates, speed and feeds. Material pricing, understand yielding.
- Understanding machining, design, and material knowledge is a plus or must be willing to learn.
- CNC mill and/or lathe experience, Understands CAD files, knows different types of plastics.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents is a plus or must be willing to learn.
- Understands datums, positional tolerance, dimensional tolerances. Can read material specifications.
- Knowledge of computer systems/manufacturing software programs such as JobBoss, Paperless or Docuware is a plus.
- Understands CAD systems such as MasterCam. Has worked with ERP systems such as JobBoss.
- Associate degree in business or technical discipline is preferred; or 1-4 years experience and/or training in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Has some education and/or technical experience with industries such as: Aerospace, Medical, Electronic, NASA (SpaceX & JPL)
- Proficient in MS Office (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel) and Internet.
- Has desktop computer experience, understands email correspondence and can talk on the phone with technical ability. Can surf the internet to research customers and suppliers.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Associate degree in business or technical discipline; or four years plus of experience and/or training in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Proven ability to meet and exceed sales goals for new and existing business in plastics, machining, and/or fabricating sales with strong prospecting and closing skills.
- Strong machining, design, and material knowledge required.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with excellent time management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel) and Internet.
- Knowledge of computer systems/manufacturing software programs such as JobBoss, Paperless or Docuware is a plus.
- Must be aggressive and goal oriented.
