Job Duties: Perform research for a broad spectrum of electronic and optical technologies, including fluorescence microscopy, fiber optic sensing, and optical and electromagnetic tracking systems for integration into robotic endoscopic instruments. Design, develop, test, verify, and optimize imaging and sensing systems, calibration systems, and manufacturing processes for medical device components. Support international market launches, working closely with cross functional teams consisting of R&D, Business Strategy, Regulatory, and Marketing to assure on-time regulatory clearance and deliver technology meeting core unmet needs. Collaboratively work with stakeholders to drive research and development and identify technology and market trends in various state-of-the-art technologies for addressing a wide range of clinical objectives. Lead internal cross-functional teams and external partners to assess concept technical and clinical feasibility in early product development efforts. Lead benchmarking efforts for newly developed technology pieces against existing solutions. Serve as a subject matter expert for optical imaging, sensing and motion tracking subsystem design and characterization test methods. Act as a Vision and Sensor Systems representative during system level architecture definition and hardware/software integration. Develop specifications, test procedures, automated test fixtures, and test scripts. Prepare and manage engineering test protocols and reports according to external and internal standards. Act as an R&D leader and strategic partner with key cross functional colleagues to support regulatory strategies for new and existing products to assure on-time regulatory clearance. Serve as a domain expert in evaluation of customer needs, potential technology solutions, and design of programs to advance these technologies. Work in a regulated environment in compliance with ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.
Qualifications
Requirements: Employer will accept a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or in a Staff Optical Research Engineer-related occupation.
