Job Description
- Support corporate EHS programs and initiatives
- Promote a positive, safe culture integrated with production and quality efforts
- Advise the Site Manager and other Site Leadership on EHS issues
- Maintain an awareness of regulatory changes at the federal, state, county, and municipal levels
- Monitor and revise existing EHS programs
- Establish new EHS programs
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits
- Incident reporting review and trending
- Communicate to operations
- Lead EHS training
- Provide environmental, health and safety expertise. Maintain familiarity with local, state, and federal rules
- Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance and provide consistency with corporate initiatives. Develop environmental and safety objectives and targets consistent with company policy
- Analyze industrial accident causes and hazards; establish corrective measures, and follow-up on project completion. Detail trends and develop programs to eliminate them
- Work with site to implement and sustain the environmental and safety system
- Provide direction on safe design and use of equipment, fire prevention and safety training programs. Provide engineering solutions with regards to machine guarding
- Inspect site to identify existing or potential hazards, and recommends corrective/ preventive measures
- Review safety data sheets and recommend safe handling practices
- Compile and submit reports required by regulatory agencies
- Assist with the administration of workers' compensation program
- Develop and coordinate training programs to improve safe practices and promote EHS awareness
- Purchase or recommend safety items including personal protective equipment as well as environmental and engineering controls; maintain the budget requirements of the safety department
- Evaluate for property protection issues and develop cost effective solutions to minimize interruptions to business
- Maintain appropriate environmental and safety documentation and records
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or working towards degree; one to three years related experience specific to Michigan environmental and safety management; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiar with OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations and technical procedures
- Ability to write reports, and procedure manuals
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
