Job description

Job Title: Safety Manager
Reports to: Director of Operations
Department: Safety

Summary: Safety Manager is responsible for the continuous overall coordination and implementation of employee health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and policies, but most importantly, to ensure employee safety for the Tulare, Lost Hills and Firebaugh facilities. This is done by developing, implementing, monitoring and enforcing policies and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance and assess risk at all levels within the company.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct regular walk thorough and inspections of all three facilities; assess any
potential safety issues and initiate a corrective action.
Train and test employees requiring a Forklift, Ariel Platform and any other equipment requiring a certification.
Responsible for investigating incidents, injuries and property damage; including compiling data, taking photographs and completing proper documentation. Compile data, photographs, etc.; prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents.
Issue various permits (i.e. Hot Work, Confined Space, etc.) as required,
Responsible for employee safety training portion of new hire orientation process.
Maintain all safety related binders and safety training matrix.
Prepare and conduct Quarterly Tailgate Trainings.
Facilitate required Annual, Semi Annual and Quarterly Employee Safety Trainings.
Conduct inventories of safety equipment items and supplies, reorder items as needed.
Issue Employee PPE, Bump Caps, etc.
Issue HID Badges and maintain the HID tracking system.
Adhere to all the rules and regulations.
Work with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety.
Assist Management in assessing risks throughout various levels of processing.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and
/or ability required.

Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in health and safety or equal experience a related field preferred.
Experience with PowerPoint, Excel and auditor safety software, Word.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation.
Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
Strong organizational, record-keeping and follow-up skills, ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others. Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and project managers.
Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback.
Bilingual preferred.

Certificate and Licenses:
Certified Trainer for various equipment as required.
Food Defense Certified.
OSHA 30 Certification
CPR - First Aid Certification

Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This position requires a high level of comfort working outdoors with exposure to the elements such as sun, wind, dust and rain. General work environment - sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted in both indoor office settings, and outdoor settings. Environmental conditions will vary, noise level varies based on location.

Physical Demands and Travel
Employee will be required to drive locally between Horizon’s three facilities, stand and walk in rough, uneven, sometimes muddy terrain. May also need to perform office work which requires prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer, climbing stairs and other typical office duties. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items up to 50 lbs.
Travel is primarily local during business hours, although some out of area and overnight travel may also occasionally be required.
