QA & Food Safety Manager

Job Description: The primary role of the QA & Food Safety Manager is to manage the QA/QC Food Safety program. This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining company policies and procedures relating to all regulatory Food Safety requirements, food security, quality assurance and certifications (SQF, National Organic Program, ROC, Kosher, Fair Trade etc.).
Position Reports to: Vice President of Success
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Manage the Food Safety, quality assurance, and sanitation programs.
- Responsible for the documentation of Food Safety and Quality Assurance procedures, guidelines, and work instructions.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective quality systems to continuously improve quality and Food Safety.
- Execute and document all employee Food Safety training.
- Maintain HACCP program, pest control program and conduct crisis management and mock recalls.
- Trend and conduct root cause analysis on customer complaints and non-conformances and determine corrective actions and/or preventative actions.
- Develop, review, and refine all company QA and QC policies and SOPs.
- Interact with all departments and teams to ensure Food Safety and Quality standards are maintained.
- Lead all internal audits as well as external supplier audits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable certification agencies and ensure audit readiness.
- Responsible for all incoming raw ingredients and finished product evaluations.
- Maintain document control system.
- Conduct process and equipment validations.
- Supervise sanitation of equipment and facility.
- Conduct product sampling and testing set by company or customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement throughout the supply chain by refining the sampling/ testing/ approval of procured materials, enhancing vendor and customer onboarding and compliance, monitoring and aiding in improving production and processes.
- Prepare company for SQF certification in 2024.
- Stay up to date on all Food Safety regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
- Assume additional responsibilities as they arise.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
- PCQI, HACCP and SQF Practitioner certification is required.
Skills:
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Must be fluent in English.
Reasoning Ability:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Internet Usage, and PC Windows Usage experience.

- Familiarity with OSHA requirements
- Concrete knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SSOP, GFSI and SQF.
- Must be able to set and attain goals, initiate action to resolve problems and improve products and processes.
- Must be able to provide concise executive summaries of quality issues, summaries changes needed or made to QA/QC processes.
- Good organizational and project management skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with a variety of people at various technical and management levels.
