Job title: Safety Manager
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager or General Manager, The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that all employees work in a safe environment. The incumbent will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of safety within the plant, including the development and implementation of safety procedures, training, and monitoring. The Safety Manager is expected to lead the plant safety culture to ensure that safety is an integral part of every activity in the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement plant safety policies, standards, and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
- Investigate workplace incidents, near-miss incidents, and accidents, implement appropriate corrective actions and develop strategic plans for reducing future occurrences.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees and contractors working at the plant.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and manage safety risks within the plant.
- Develop and maintain metrics that measure the effectiveness of the plant safety program.
- Identify compliance gaps and work with internal teams to close them in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and industry associations.
- Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and develop corrective action plans.
- Reports W.C., General Liability, Automobile ad Captive claims as assigned by the HR manager or General Manager
- Promote a safe and positive safety culture within the plant.
Required Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Must have at least 5 years of experience managing safety programs within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Experience developing policies, procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage safety programs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
- Professional certification, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).
- Experience in food manufacturing
- Experience leading and coaching safety teams.
Physical Demands:
The position may require bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders or stairs, walking on uneven surfaces, standing for long periods of time, and working in environments with elevated noise and temperature levels. The incumbent should be able to lift equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
The Safety Manager may need to work beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may be required to work during emergency situations. The manager may also need to travel for training, meetings, or inspections.
