This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) mission is to increase public safety and improve the fair administration of justice across America through innovative leadership and programs. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) mission is to advance scientific research, development and evaluation to enhance the administration of justice and public safety.Qualifications: Basic Entry Requirements:
- Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (MUST PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS).
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
- Utilizes scientific or technological advancements and theories to address significant safety, Health and Wellness challenges within the criminal justice system that traditional methods cannot effectively treat within the realm of criminal justice.
- Conducts research on general medical and healthcare topics related to criminal justice and public safety such as literature reviews, environmental scans, data collections, data analyses, position papers or original experimental research.
- Provides leadership on complex issues of critical importance in the criminal justice system as it relates to safety, Health and Wellness.
- Formulates and carries through research plans that explore research in relation to general medical and healthcare topics applied to the safety, Health and Wellness of practitioners and those involved in the criminal justice system, including the physical performance requirements of practitioners; injury and physical trauma related to criminal justice practice; and the connection between stress and mental hygiene with job performance.
