Duties
As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Skillfully articulates thoughts in both written and oral formats, actively listening to others, and fosters stakeholder relationships to clearly communicate ideas as well as build and maintain teams and teamwork.
  • Developing and implementing, based on general strategic guidance policies, programs, and procedures necessary to protect FERC staff from injury and illness, FERC property from damage, and respond to emergency incidents.
  • Providing follow-up, evaluations, and quality control checks of programs and services to ensure stakeholder and customer satisfaction.
  • Guiding and directing personnel within assigned program areas, setting workloads, ensuring task completion, and reviewing work products to ensure personnel meet strategic initiatives in coordination with the supervisor.

Qualifications

You can qualify based on your education OR one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level, OR have a combination education and experience. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience applying Safety and health principles; conducting and documenting on-site Occupational Health and safety investigations; performing administrative task(s) in support Safety and health policies and programs; or experience designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and providing instructions for Safety and Occupational Health training, education, and promotional campaigns.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.

The duty location of this position is Washington, DC. Agency employees are eligible for telework and other workplace flexibilities. Telework days and waiting periods for eligibility are determined when an employee enters on duty.

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
  1.
